Job Description

IT Systems – Automation Engineer

n8n

• Your main goal will be to make n8n’s IT operations reliable, secure, and scalable while reducing manual work through thoughtful, maintainable automation. • You’ll combine hands-on IT operations with continuous process improvement across the following areas: • IDENTITY, ACCESS, AND SAAS OPERATIONS • Own day-to-day identity and access management across Okta, Google Workspace, GitHub, and connected SaaS applications. • Manage employee and application lifecycle workflows, including provisioning, access changes, group assignments, troubleshooting, and deprovisioning. • Maintain an accurate SaaS inventory and support application administration, lifecycle management, access governance, and account reconciliation. • EMPLOYEE AND ENDPOINT LIFECYCLE • Deliver reliable and timely onboarding and offboarding experiences in close partnership with People, Finance, managers, and application owners. • Manage and troubleshoot n8n’s primarily macOS device fleet through our endpoint management tooling. • Support hardware procurement, device lifecycle workflows, and secure endpoint operations for a growing distributed team. • AUTOMATION AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT • Design and build secure automations for recurring IT processes using n8n, APIs, scripting, and AI-assisted tooling where appropriate. • Redesign manual workflows so they become observable, documented, reliable, and easier to operate at scale. • Build automations with appropriate logging, error handling, monitoring, ownership, and human approval steps for sensitive decisions. • SUPPORT, DOCUMENTATION, AND COMPLIANCE • Provide responsive L1/L2 IT support while using recurring issues to identify opportunities for systemic improvement. • Create and maintain clear runbooks, process documentation, escalation paths, and operational controls. • Support security and compliance activities, including access reviews, audit evidence collection, SOC 2, and ISO 27001-related processes.

  • 🔐 Identity and access management: You have hands-on experience with Google Workspace and an identity provider such as Okta or Microsoft Entra ID.
  • 🔄 Employee lifecycle management: You have managed onboarding, offboarding, groups, roles, access changes, application assignments, and secure deprovisioning.
  • 💻 macOS endpoint management: You have administered macOS devices through an MDM platform such as Kandji, Jamf, JumpCloud, Workspace ONE, or a comparable tool.
  • ⚙️ Workflow automation: You can demonstrate how you have improved or automated an operational process using APIs, scripting, workflow automation platforms, or AI-assisted tooling.
  • 🔌 Integration fundamentals: You have working knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, JSON, authentication concepts, and integration troubleshooting.
  • 🔍 Technical troubleshooting: You can diagnose workflow and systems issues using logs, API responses, system events, and other operational data.
  • 🧭 Ownership and judgment: You’re known for strong ownership, sound judgment, rigor, and a thoughtful approach to privileged access, sensitive data, and high-impact changes.
  • 🤝 Service mindset: You communicate clearly, document your work thoroughly, and care about delivering a reliable experience for internal users.
  • 🌍 Autonomous working style: You’re comfortable prioritising and making progress independently in an evolving, distributed environment without relying on highly defined procedures for every task.
  • Nice-to-haves**
  • 🔗 Workflow automation platforms: You have experience with n8n or another workflow automation platform such as Zapier or Make.
  • ⌨️ Scripting: You have basic scripting experience using Python, JavaScript, or Bash.

  • 🐙 GitHub administration: You have experience managing GitHub organisations, teams, repositories, and permissions.
  • 🤖 Reliable AI workflows: You have designed AI-assisted workflows that include validation, human approvals, monitoring, error handling, and fallback paths.
  • 🛡️ Automation reliability: You understand concepts such as retries, idempotency, secrets management, auditability, and failure handling.
  • 📋 Security and compliance: You’re familiar with SOC 2, ISO 27001, access reviews, or audit evidence collection.
  • 🚀 Scaling environments: You have worked in an early-stage or rapidly growing IT function where processes and systems were still being established.
