Role Description SourcePro Search has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Conflicts Attorney with our top ranked, large law firm client. This role is hybrid/remote and offers a competitive base, bonus and excellent benefits/growth potential. This role can be based fully remote for candidates who reside in California, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia or Washington, DC. Working hours will be M-F from 1:00PM - 9:00 PM PST/ 4:00 PM - 12:00am EST. The Conflicts Attorney is responsible for assisting with the review, identification and resolution of potential conflicts issues with respect to clients, matters, new business and incoming lawyers firm wide. The Conflicts Attorney will actively follow-up on conflicts clearance with all responsible parties handling new engagements, and will conduct thorough, daily reviews of firm conflicts of interest reports, resolving any identified issues on a timely basis. The Conflicts Attorney reports to the Manager, Conflicts Analysis and works closely with all members of the Conflicts and New Business Intake Department as well as the firm’s Conflicts & Ethics Committee. - Review and provide thorough and timely analysis of all firm new business in order to identify ethical and business conflicts of interest. - Utilize available internal and external databases, communication with Partners, other lawyers and business services colleagues to follow up on and resolve all potential conflicts of interest. - See all conflicts of interest issues through to final resolution including drafting of waivers, engagement letters or other documentation for Partner review and/or submission to clients. - Proactively communicate with members of Ethics & Conflicts Committee on complex conflicts questions and other compliance issues. - Maintain thorough, accurate and current records of all conflicts resolutions in database to ensure integrity of the database and assist in identification and clearing of future conflicts of interest. - Investigate and resolve erroneous, outdated or otherwise incomplete data on conflicts reports and ensure corrections are made in database and other records to ensure integrity of information. - Serve as a resource to the firm’s Conflicts and New Business Intake Analysts and Assistants in order to assist in timely and accurate preparation of conflicts reports. - Assist firm Legal Administrative Assistants, lawyers and business services staff in understanding the firm’s new matter intake, conflicts, Anti Money Laundering, and other compliance procedures. - Work with firm business development professionals on pitches and other business initiatives as needed. - Stay current with recent research and thinking on ethics and conflicts best practices and rules across jurisdictions in which the firm has offices. Role Summary As a Staff Attorney/Senior Staff Attorney in The Hartford’s Workers’ Compensation group, you’ll own a California WC defense caseload end to end—partnering closely with claims professionals to set strategy, evaluate exposure, and drive thoughtful, timely resolutions. This is a role for a litigator who enjoys autonomy, values practical problem-solving, and wants the support and stability of an in-house practice while staying close to the courtroom when it counts. This role is primarily remote in the state of California except for required appearances. What you’ll Do • Independently handle all phases of California workers’ compensation defense, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, lien strategy, settlements, hearings and trial. • Develop and execute case strategy grounded in strong factual investigation, legal research, and practical risk evaluation. • Draft and argue motions, petitions for reconsideration, trial briefs, and (as needed) appellate briefs. • Prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trial/hearings/ADR proceedings; coordinate with experts and third-party vendors as needed. • Provide timely, clear legal advice to claims partners and insureds; communicate case status, recommendations, and valuation updates consistently. • Build and maintain professional relationships with opposing counsel, judges/boards, and external partners while demonstrating diplomacy and strong advocacy. • Contribute to a learning culture by participating in team huddles, case roundtables, file reviews, and occasional training for attorneys and claims partners. • Stay current on changes in California workers’ compensation law, WCAB procedures, and legal technology; maintain continuing legal education as required. Qualifications • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. • Active license to practice law in California • Member in good standing of the applicable Bar Association. • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. • Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and exercise sound judgment. Target case load 95-100 files. • Professional, client-focused communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a matrixed environment (legal + claims). • Comfort working in a primarily remote environment and using technology to manage a paperless practice. • WCAB trial/hearing experience and strong deposition skills. • Experience drafting petitions for reconsideration and handling appeals. • Experience with LexisNexis (or similar) and litigation/case management systems. • Demonstrated interest in mentoring/training and contributing to process improvements. Experience • Staff Attorney: 2+ years of legal practice experience, including experience handling California workers’ compensation matters or comparable experience. • Senior Staff Attorney: 5+ years of legal practice experience with significant, independent handling of complex California workers’ compensation cases or comparable experience. Trial/hearing experience preferred. Currently seeking applicants within Los Angeles County, with a primary focus on Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Marina Del Rey. Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $118,800 - $198,600
