Job Description

Staff Accountant

Newsela

• Contributing to Newsela’s month end close, financial reporting, internal controls process, and continued growth of our accounting operations. • Support accounting initiatives from start to finish, playing a hands-on role in areas such as accounts payable, accruals, fixed assets, software capitalization, and financial reporting. • Responsible for bank reconciliations, accounts payable processing and 1099 reporting. • Maintain expense reporting software, review expense reports, and assist in administering the credit card program. • Responsible for the accounting and reporting of fixed assets. • Preparation of monthly reconciliations and analysis of all balance sheet and income statement accounts. • Assist with month-end and year-end closing tasks including journal entries, the preparation of work papers and other supporting documents. • Assist with the building out of internal controls by preparing process documents and identifying process improvements. • Assist with other ad hoc projects, and supporting the Finance and Payroll & Benefits functions as necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field required
  • At least two years of accounting related experience required
  • Familiarity with NetSuite or other general ledger systems as well as other accounting software systems such as Concur, Bill.com, Ramp
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel is required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
