Social Studies Teacher
Fall River Public Schools
Role Description The Social Science Teacher is responsible for developing in each pupil an appreciation of American ideals and cultural heritage, motivating pupils to understand and exercise their rights, privileges, and responsibilities as citizens, and encouraging sound opinions based on factual study. - Teaches courses in social studies, history, geography, American Government, political science, or humanities. - Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations. - Develops a balanced social studies program involving factual background material and current events. - Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to varying pupil needs. - Develops knowledge of the American government and economic system, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. - Utilizes current material from the mass media and guides discussions of current problems. - Encourages awareness of the contributions of various groups to American culture. - Develops knowledge of political and economic systems of other nations. - Maintains standards of pupil behavior for an orderly classroom environment. - Maintains professional competence through in-service education and self-selected growth activities. - Communicates with parents and school counselors regarding pupil progress. - Identifies pupil needs and collaborates with other staff to address health, attitude, and learning problems. - Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday. - Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs and faculty committees. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree with a major in history or one of the social studies. - Appropriate Massachusetts certification. Requirements - Continued employment is contingent on work performance, program need, and funding. - Salary ranges from $59,491-$105,164 from Step 2 to Step 12, Bachelor's Degree-CAGS/Doctorate Degree.
