Information Center Loan Specialist I
Digital Federal Credit Union
• Provide Service Excellence to members during all aspects of the loan origination process for Consumer Loans and Mortgages • Answer inbound phone calls in a high-volume contact center • Efficiently assist members with inquiries about DCU loan products, the application process and other calls related to loan questions • Proficiently originate and process consumer loan applications for automobiles, personal loans, and credit cards • Review credit reports and determine loan eligibility through automated underwriting and/or Loan Officer review • Review required applicant documentation including income verification, purchase agreements etc. • Adhere to borrower/lender compliance requirements and DCU’s internal policies and procedures • Complete required trainings on compliance, DCU products/services and lending guidelines • Support DCU’s Success Sharing Goals by referring and cross selling other DCU products and services • Achieve job expectations for schedule adherence, call efficiency, sales goals and other metrics • Soon become registered through the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System to obtain Mortgage Loan Originator licensing • Answer general questions for and originate Mortgage and Home Equity applications • Participate in performance development by being receptive to constructive coaching feedback from Assistant Managers, Performance Leads and Senior Specialists • Foster teamwork and strive to strengthen relationships between the Information Center Staff and staff in DCU’s support departments • Accurately process transactions, file maintenance and all other member requests • Make process improvement recommendations in an effort to improve the efficiency of operations in the Information Center and/or other areas of the Credit Unions • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or requested.
Job Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 6 months prior contact center or 6 months lending experience required
- Excellent communication and phone etiquette
- Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new software
- Strong troubleshooting, multitasking, organizational, and time management abilities

Role Description We are currently seeking a Mortgage Loan Underwriter to join Kirtland Credit Union! This is a regular, full-time position that is fully remote based on geographical location. This is what we would like you to do: - Responsible for creating an exceptional member experience, including developing, maintaining, and enhancing member relationships. - Responsible for problem resolution resulting in win-win for the member and the Credit Union. - Perform a broad variety of member service functions, including teller transactions, cash handling, account maintenance, and opening new accounts. - Generate product/service referrals for consumer loans, credit cards, and KFS services. - Educate and provide members with Credit Union products and services, identifying what is best for the Member. - Support the credit union’s mission, vision, strategic goals, quality initiatives, and service standards. - Provide exceptional internal and external member service. Primary Job Duties: - Assumes responsibility for reviewing appraisals and ensuring that determined values are well documented. - Assumes responsibility for accurately evaluating the credit worthiness of potential borrowers. - Evaluates applicant's employment history, ensuring that the probability of continued employment is good. - Verifies at least two years of employment history and ensures that all income used in qualifying is expected to continue for at least 3 years or meets secondary marketing guidelines. - Evaluates likelihood of job tenure and assesses overtime, bonuses, and commissions used to qualify. - Analyzes tax returns and balance sheets of self-employed applicants. - Evaluates the adequacy of the applicant's income and the probability that the member will be able to meet expected financial obligations. - Assesses family support requirements and compares previous housing expenses with proposed expenses. - Examines income trends and determines possibilities for increased income in future years. - Assesses potential borrower's assets, ensuring that assets meet closing requirements and are derived from acceptable sources. - Reviews borrower's credit, including the manner in which obligations have been met and financial affairs managed. - Investigates derogatory credit and ensures that all previous mortgage histories are rated and all debts are appropriately listed and rated. - Orders private mortgage insurance in compliance with PMI guidelines. - Completes all underwriting functions in accordance with various program requirements, Credit Union standards, and related legal and regulatory requirements. - Completes related documentation and reports, maintaining files and ensuring their completeness. - Ensures that all lending conditions have been satisfactorily met prior to closing. - Ensures the marketability of closed loans and the safety of Credit Union assets. - Establishes and maintains effective communication and coordination with Credit Union personnel and management. - Establishes and maintains professional working relations with members and external lending professionals and governmental agencies. Qualifications - High school diploma required. - Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred. Requirements - Three years of directly related experience in the credit field required. - DE (Direct Endorsement) qualification from housing and urban development and can underwrite and approve government loans required. - Licensed Mortgage Underwriter with direct experience operating under the LAPP/SAR authority, actively issuing Notices of Value (NOVs) within the past year required. - Proven expertise reviewing, analyzing, and approving residential appraisals in compliance with Fannie Mae guidelines preferred. - Extensive experience utilizing Desktop Underwriter (DU) for automated underwriting decisions, risk assessment, and loan eligibility validation preferred. - Strong background in credit, income, asset, and collateral analysis to support sound underwriting decisions preferred. - Demonstrated ability to ensure regulatory compliance, maintain quality control, and mitigate lending risk preferred. - Two years of Financial Institution experience preferred. - Experience in general mortgage or real estate lending required. - Experience with calculating loan-to-value and debt to income preferred.
