• Improve the high availability of our Dockerized microservices to ensure platform stability. • Launch and manage services in Kubernetes to scale our global operations. • Develop and operate infrastructure via Terraform, promoting automation and standardization practices like GitOps and immutability. • Deploy releases to production and staging environments while managing the full lifecycle of deployment processes. • Improve upon our CI/CD pipeline using tools like GitHub Actions to streamline delivery. • Build and maintain monitoring tools for logging, performance, uptime, and tracing to improve system observability. • Optimize database performance and manage backups, restorations, and Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) procedures. • Collaborate with Engineering teams to provide tooling, development support, and post-incident recovery. • Contribute to the continuous improvement of IT security best practices and architecting new features. • Participate in the on-call rotation to ensure rapid incident resolution and stakeholder communication under pressure.

• Spark / YARN Job Optimization: Analyze job resource usage and identify inefficiencies (CPU idle, memory waste, timeouts, small file problems, etc.) • Build job profiling systems: job classification, resource baseline modeling, historical trend analysis • Produce optimization reports and drive business owners to implement improvements • AI-Driven Automation & Tooling: Use AI coding tools (Cursor / Copilot / Claude, etc.) fluently to accelerate development and tool delivery • Participate in EMR / S3 cost optimization projects: analyze high-cost jobs and storage, identify waste, and drive owners to take action • Develop automated ops scripts: scheduled health checks, anomaly alerting, data governance policy auto-deployment • Help build internal SaaS tooling to systematize and productize repetitive manual operations • Monitoring & Alerting: Maintain and improve existing monitoring systems (Prometheus metrics, alerts, log analysis) • Participate in Flink / Spark job health monitoring development • Assist with capacity alerting and governance for disk, S3, and other storage layers

• Own Render's core compute infrastructure across multiple cloud providers, regions, and data centers. You'll shape how we evolve our compute platform as we rapidly scale. • Design and build capabilities that give users greater performance and flexibility in how their services are built, deployed, perform, and stay available even when underlying resources go down. • Investigate challenging cloud and compute issues across the stack, from the kernel and data plane to our kubernetes cluster, control plane, and other orchestration mechanisms. • Improve the performance and reliability of our infrastructure through systematic profiling, experimentation, and tuning. • Partner with engineers across the company to build a platform that is stable, predictable, and secure. • Participate in our on-call rotation. Role Description The Infrastructure Engineer (Storage) is an early career engineering role designed for IT professionals transitioning into infrastructure engineering. This role focuses on learning, supporting, and gradually owning enterprise storage and data protection platforms under the guidance of senior engineers. This position offers hands-on exposure to storage technologies, backup and recovery systems, and enterprise operations supporting a large, distributed retail environment. - Assist with the operation and support of enterprise storage and backup platforms. - Perform routine storage tasks such as monitoring capacity, checking alerts, and validating backups. - Support backup, recovery, and restore requests following documented procedures. - Assist senior engineers with storage provisioning, maintenance, and platform upgrades. - Troubleshoot basic storage and data protection issues and escalate appropriately. - Maintain documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures. - Partner with managed service providers and vendor support teams by opening, tracking, and updating support cases as directed by senior engineers. - Coordinate with other IT teams (virtualization, server, network, cloud, and service desk) to support incidents, service requests, and operational activities. - Participate in incident bridges and follow the sun support models alongside internal teams and managed services partners. - Participate in disaster recovery testing and operational readiness exercises. - Learn storage concepts, platforms, and best practices through hands-on work and mentorship. Qualifications - 2+ years of experience in Help Desk, Service Desk, or IT Operations roles. - Fundamental understanding of servers, operating systems, and basic networking concepts. - Strong interest in infrastructure engineering, storage, and data protection technologies. - Ability to follow procedures, document work, and learn complex systems. - Strong troubleshooting mindset and willingness to ask questions. Requirements - Exposure to storage, backup, or virtualization concepts (academic, lab, or on the job). - Experience working with managed service providers or vendor support portals. - Experience with ticketing systems and operational support processes. - Basic scripting or automation curiosity (PowerShell or similar). - Relevant coursework, certifications, or self-study a plus.
