Construction Resident Engineer

LaBella Associates

• Administer a bridge replacement project for the Onondaga County Department of Transportation. • Conduct construction field inspections and apply knowledge to various construction activities. • Interpret contract plans and specifications. • Maintain project record keeping and reporting. • Start construction work in early July 2026 with completion in November 2026.

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrate proficiency with the following computer programs: MS Outlook/Word/Excel, Bluebeam, and APPIA.
  • Establish and maintain a strong client relationship.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and be able to interact with project safety supervisors and construction work foremen to assure a safe work zone for work crews and the traveling public alike.
  • Conduct regular on-site inspections to verify that construction activities align with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Ensure that construction projects comply with local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
  • Be proficient in the use of APPIA to maintain detailed records of inspections, including photographs, notes, and reports.
  • Prepare inspection reports outlining findings, discrepancies, and corrective actions required.
  • Communicate with contractors, project managers, and engineers to discuss inspection results and address any issues.
  • Provide guidance on corrective measures to bring non-compliant elements up to standard.
  • Monitor the quality of construction materials and workmanship to ensure they meet specified standards.
  • Identify and report any deviations from approved plans and specifications.
  • Evaluate construction sites for adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Report and address any safety hazards or violations promptly.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to resolve issues and ensure construction projects progress smoothly.
  • Attend meetings to provide updates on inspections and address any concerns.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

What we're looking for - 2-5 years' post-graduate experience in civil/site infrastructure design. - Exposure to applying Austroads and local council/authority requirements (or a willingness to learn quickly). - Developing competency in stormwater (pit and pipe) and familiarity with earthworks and basic water/wastewater design tasks. - Interest in WSUD principles and how they integrate with stormwater solutions (a plus). - Any exposure to Department of Defence projects is highly regarded, but not essential. - Process-driven and detail-oriented, with a clear focus on quality, checking and well-structured deliverables. - A collaborative mindset, comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and asking the right questions early.
