Chokwe Language Freelance Court Interpreter - Nationwide, United States, United States - Contract Job Description Overview SOSi is actively seeking qualified, professional, and Chokwe Language Interpreters to join our team. The interpreter will support our customer’s interpretation needs in the immigration courts giving respondents a voice. Essential Job Duties - Provides consecutive and simultaneous interpretation between target language and English and vice versa. - Provides in-person, over-the-phone and video remote interpreting for limited English proficiency (LEP) individuals as required. - Performs sight translation, occurring when an interpreter is given a written document in one language and asked to read it aloud in another language. - Provides quality control review of translated documents as required. - Performs other duties as required. Qualifications Minimum Requirements - Legal ability to work in U.S. - Highly proficient in both English and target language vocabularies typically used in formal, consultative, and casual modes of communication, including colloquial slang, idiosyncratic slang, and regionalisms. - Minimum one (1) year of experience with both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting. Experience within a judicial environment is desired. (can be volunteer, criminal, civil, etc.) - Knowledgeable of specialized vocabulary (terminology) in both English and desired language with both legal and criminal terminology. - Familiarity with the the U.S. Immigration System. - Ability to speak English and Spanish fluently, including high to low levels of language register, regional colloquialisms, and slang expressions, and do so with clear and intelligible pronunciation. - Ability to perform simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions. - Ability to preserve the tone and emotional level of the speaker, as well as manage the delivery, speed, and length of the statement (projection, pace and pausing) of the speaker. - Ability to maintain appropriate speed and projection while rendering interpretation, and request and incorporate clarification of speaker’s statements only when justified. Additional Information Work Environment - Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. - On site in courts, with remote flexibility around court schedule. - Open to up to 10% travel.

Role Description We currently have a need for Remote Contract Korean Interpreters who have a sincere desire to use their language skills to help people and are passionate about what they do. - Provides consecutive, first-person interpretation. - Follows interpreter protocols and procedures as required by Propio L.S. clients. - Follows all Propio L.S. policies and procedures related to information confidentiality and interpreter ethics. - Continuously improves vocabulary and specialized subject matter knowledge, as required for various clients, such as medical, legal, social services, etc. Qualifications - Submission of updated Resume in English at time of Application. - Completion of English Language Proficiency with a language rating of “technical proficiency” (3 or higher on the nationally recognized ILR scale). - Successful completion of a Mock oral interpretation session. Interpreters are evaluated against 24 quality standards and must attain a passing score. - Completion of Propio's online Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology Assessment, with a passing score. - A full Background Check and Security Screen. - A signed commitment to confidentiality, adherence to ethics, and HIPAA compliance.
