Role Description Five Below is seeking a Sr Solutions Architect to lead the design and implementation of our enterprise omnichannel initiatives, with a primary focus on Manhattan Active Omni (MAO) and the broader omnichannel order lifecycle. This role defines and drives end-to-end architecture for: - Order capture - Distributed order management (DOM) - Fulfillment orchestration - Inventory visibility - Post-purchase experiences This role mandates active use of AI productivity tools - including Cursor, Claude, Glean, and equivalent platforms - to accelerate delivery and model best practices for the broader engineering organization. Key Responsibilities - Omnichannel Architecture & Strategy - Define and own the enterprise omnichannel architecture, aligning with Five Below's business priorities and multi-year technology roadmap. - Develop reference architectures, integration patterns, and design standards for order management, fulfillment orchestration, and inventory availability. - Translate retail business problems into scalable omnichannel solution blueprints. - Partner with business, product, and engineering leaders to identify and prioritize high-impact omnichannel capabilities. - Champion API-first, event-driven, and microservices design principles. - Manhattan Active Omni Design & Implementation - Lead the architecture, configuration, and implementation of Manhattan Active Omni. - Design order routing, sourcing rules, fulfillment workflows, and exception management. - Establish configuration and extension standards for Manhattan Active Omni. - Define upgrade, patch, and release management standards for Manhattan Active Omni environments. - Evaluate and advise on adjacent platform expansions. - System Integration & API Design - Architect end-to-end integration patterns connecting OMS to all upstream and downstream retail systems. - Define API standards for order, inventory, fulfillment, and return data flows. - Design real-time inventory visibility solutions. - Lead integration design for carrier management and third-party logistics partners. - Establish integration governance. - Fulfillment & Store Operations Architecture - Architect fulfillment capabilities on Manhattan Active Omni Store Fulfillment. - Design the distributed order management (DOM) logic. - Define returns and reverse logistics architectures. - Partner with Store Technology and Operations. - Drive fraud management and payment capture architecture. - Performance, Scalability & Observability - Define non-functional requirements (NFRs) for all OMS and omnichannel systems. - Establish an observability framework for omnichannel systems. - Design load testing, capacity planning, and peak readiness strategies. - Partner with Platform Engineering to embed observability. - Establish runbooks and automated alerting for critical failure scenarios. - Data Architecture & Reporting - Define the omnichannel data model. - Architect data pipelines that feed omnichannel operational metrics. - Partner with Data Engineering to ensure order and fulfillment data availability. - Define data governance standards for omnichannel datasets. - Technology Evaluation, Governance & Vendor Management - Lead build-vs-buy-vs-configure decisions for omnichannel capabilities. - Evaluate and recommend platform investments. - Define vendor selection criteria and lead RFP/POC processes. - Establish technology governance. - Partner with Security, Legal, and Enterprise Architecture. - Technical Leadership & Delivery - Work closely with Software Engineers, Integration Engineers, QA, and platform teams. - Provide hands-on guidance during implementation phases. - Lead architectural reviews and design sessions. - Mentor and upskill engineering teams. - Align delivery roadmaps with business program timelines. Qualifications - 9+ years of experience in software or enterprise architecture. - 5+ years focused on Order Management, Omnichannel, or Supply Chain systems in retail or e-commerce. - Hands-on experience implementing or architecting Manhattan Active Omni. - Deep understanding of omnichannel fulfillment models. - Strong expertise in API design and integration architecture. - Experience integrating OMS with adjacent retail systems. - Demonstrated experience designing distributed order management (DOM) and inventory availability solutions. - Working knowledge of retail data models. - Experience with cloud platforms and cloud-native architectural patterns. - Established practice of using AI productivity tools. - Excellent communication skills. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with Commercetools, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, or equivalent. - Familiarity with Manhattan WMS, Blue Yonder WMS, or equivalent. - Experience with Aptos POS, NCR, Oracle Xstore or equivalent. - Knowledge of carrier management platforms. - Experience with customer-facing order tracking and self-service returns. - Experience leading enterprise platform programs. - Contributions to omnichannel or retail technology communities. What Success Looks Like in Year One - Delivered a well-documented enterprise omnichannel architecture. - Manhattan Omni Order Management and Store Fulfillment are fully implemented or materially advanced. - At least two high-priority omnichannel capabilities have been successfully launched. - Integration patterns, API contracts, and data standards are documented and adopted. - An observability and monitoring framework is in place. - Recognized as the go-to omnichannel architecture authority.
