• Support data transparency: Review datasets for clarity, completeness, and alignment with journal standards. • Check metadata and documentation: Ensure authors provide accessible, well‑structured metadata that supports reproducibility. • Identify gaps or issues: Flag missing information, inconsistencies, or unclear methods to the editorial team. • Promote good practice: Help authors strengthen responsible data handling, open science, and ethical research behaviours. • Work collaboratively: Follow shared workflows and contribute to a positive, inclusive editorial environment.

• Identify timely areas of applied ecology research: In collaboration with the Senior Editors and BES staff, identify key areas of focus for the journal • Commission high-quality papers: In collaboration with the Editorial Office, encourage submission of proposed manuscripts around priority areas for the journal • Act as decision making editor: Handle Reviews, Perspectives, Practitioner’s Perspectives and Policy Directions both solicited and unsolicited as decision making editor • Promote understanding: Help authors strengthen their understanding of the journal’s scope and article types by fielding pre-submission enquiries on special article types • Work collaboratively: Communicate and act in a way that contributes to a positive, inclusive editorial environment.

• Correct spelling errors in OCR-processed news clippings to ensure error-free copy and a consistent style • Ensure that headlines, photos, captions, and other text zones are correctly identified and represented in the text • Verify that news articles are complete and that no subsequent pages are missing • Ensure that news clippings are properly represented in PDF format • Report any quality issues

• Assist the dot.LA team with daily updates on Los Angeles’ tech and startup world • Help reporters keep a close eye on developments on their beats and on SEC filings for new companies and corporate fundraising • Work closely with the audience team to engage and inform our readers • Brainstorm and develop editorial content in support of dot.LA stories, series, podcasts and events
