Mechanical Design Engineer – Water Industry, Pumping Stations
ALTEN
• Experience with Mechanical Design & Pumping Systems • Design and develop pumping stations, including mechanical layouts and equipment selection • Specify and size pumps, pipework systems, valves, and associated mechanical equipment • Produce detailed design calculations, technical drawings, and specifications • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and maintainability requirements • Apply relevant water industry standards, including WIMES • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations • Support design reviews and ensure alignment with project and client requirements • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, electrical, and process engineers • Support project phases including design, procurement, installation, and commissioning • Liaise with suppliers and contractors to ensure technical compliance and quality • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, cost, and sustainability of mechanical systems • Contribute to continuous improvement in design methods and engineering practices • Support the integration of new technologies within water infrastructure projects
Job Requirements
- Strong experience in mechanical design within the water or utilities sector
- Proven experience designing pumping stations, pumps, and piping systems
- Understanding of mechanical principles, fluid systems, and hydraulic calculations
- Familiarity with WIMES standards and water industry practices
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or equivalent military experience
