Staff Backend Engineer

• Design and implement high-performance, scalable Python microservices and APIs that support our real-time AI agent framework • Build resilient distributed systems that maintain high availability and low latency at scale, supporting tens of thousands of concurrent connections • Architect robust data storage solutions across SQL, NoSQL, in-memory stores (Redis), and blob storage, understanding when to use each and how to orchestrate them • Implement message queuing systems and event-driven architectures for reliable inter-service communication • Build and maintain integrations with Epic EHR and other healthcare systems • Ensure HIPAA compliance and security in all system designs • Create monitoring and observability systems to ensure platform reliability • Take end-to-end ownership of backend features from design through deployment • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams through technical discussions and code reviews
Job Requirements
- 7+ years of backend engineering experience building scalable, distributed systems
- Strong system design skills with demonstrated ability to architect solutions from scratch
- Experience integrating with external systems and third-party APIs
- Track record of independently owning and delivering complex technical projects
- Comfort with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor) for enhanced productivity
- Experience with real-time, low-latency distributed systems at scale
- Background in healthcare technology or regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2)
- EHR integrations (Epic, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks) and healthcare system APIs
- Telephony systems or voice infrastructure
