DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will support clean air protections by providing technical and engineering expertise for permitting, regulatory development, and technology assessments. The work you will do helps ensure that environmental and economic considerations are balanced in meeting state and federal air quality rules. As an Air Quality Engineer, you will perform the following duties: - Technology Evaluation: Assess technology options by reviewing environmental, energy, and economic impacts - Permitting Support: Develop criteria and background materials for approvals and permits across various source categories - Regulation Development: Assist in preparing and supporting regulatory materials for statewide air quality programs - Standards Application: Determine applicability of federal and state emission standards for industries and consultants - Technical Reporting: Prepare reports, briefings, and responses to questions related to air quality permitting programs - Collaboration Duties: Coordinate with regional staff, legal counsel, and federal partners on technology and permitting matters Work Schedule and Additional Information: - Full-time employment - Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. - Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: - Two years as an Air Quality Engineering Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or - Four years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or - Three years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or - Three years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering. - Graduate study in chemical, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for- year basis.
