Science Community Lead
Bio Protocol
• Build and manage our Discord communities - creating channels, setting up bots, designing onboarding flows, and keeping conversations active • Host community events like AMAs, journal clubs, voice chats, and Twitter/X Spaces • Create programming that keeps members engaged and coming back - whether that's highlighting member research, running workshops, or sparking discussions around hot topics • Connect people - identify emerging voices, facilitate introductions, and help members find collaborators • Moderate discussions and maintain a welcoming, inclusive environment • Track community health metrics and experiment with new formats to drive engagement
Job Requirements
- You have a Bachelor's or Master's in biology, biochemistry, biotech, or a related field
- You're Discord-native - you've spent real time in communities, understand the culture, and ideally have moderated a server before
- You're probably already active in online science communities (Twitter/X, Reddit, Discord, etc.) and genuinely enjoy connecting with people
- You have strong writing skills - warm, accessible, and human (not corporate)
- You're comfortable hopping on voice chats and hosting live events
- You take initiative and aren't afraid to try things that might not work
- You're organized enough to keep multiple channels, events, and initiatives running smoothly
- Bonus Points: Experience with Discord bots (MEE6, Carl-bot, or custom)
- You run a science meme account, podcast, newsletter, or have built an online following
- Familiarity with the biotech/life sciences landscape - who the players are, what people care about
- Experience organizing in-person or virtual events
