As an Experienced Engineering Research Coach, you will serve as a strategic advisor and hands-on mentor to engineering researchers, helping them develop advanced research methodologies, sharpen technical thinking, and produce high-impact outcomes. This senior-level, remote-eligible position based in California is ideal for a professional who thrives at the intersection of engineering excellence and research development. Key Responsibilities - Lead high-level coaching engagements with senior and mid-level engineering researchers to strengthen research design, methodology, and execution. - Design and implement structured coaching frameworks tailored to individual and team research goals within engineering disciplines. - Analyze existing research processes and identify opportunities to improve rigor, efficiency, and output quality. - Collaborate with department leads and technical stakeholders to align research coaching programs with organizational priorities. - Mentor engineering researchers through complex problem-solving, experimental design, data interpretation, and technical writing. - Evaluate research proposals and provide constructive, expert-level feedback to elevate the quality of engineering investigations. - Develop and deliver workshops, seminars, or training sessions on advanced research techniques, critical thinking, and engineering best practices. - Track and assess the progress of coached individuals and teams, adjusting coaching strategies to maximize growth and research outcomes. Qualifications - Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Engineering, Applied Sciences, or a closely related field. - Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in engineering research, with demonstrated expertise in research methodology and technical problem-solving. - Proven track record of mentoring, coaching, or training engineering professionals at a senior level. - Strong command of engineering research principles, experimental design, and data-driven analysis. - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively. - Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining high levels of productivity and collaboration. Preferred Qualifications - Experience coaching within multidisciplinary engineering research environments. - Familiarity with academic and industry research standards, publication processes, and grant or proposal writing. - Prior experience developing structured coaching or professional development programs. - Background in a specialized engineering domain such as mechanical, electrical, civil, software, or systems engineering. - Experience working with geographically distributed or remote teams. Technical Skills - Proficiency in research documentation tools and technical writing platforms. - Familiarity with data analysis tools and software relevant to engineering research (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R, or domain-specific platforms). - Working knowledge of project management methodologies and tools to support research planning and execution. - Ability to evaluate and apply engineering standards, frameworks, and best practices across research contexts.
