About the Role Ramp.com is the largest top-of-funnel surface at Ramp - over half our inbound SQLs come from it. Web Engineering owns this surface and the tooling marketers use to ship on it. You'll build the platforms that let 9+ marketing teams (Product Marketing, Paid Ads, AEO, Brand, Content, Lifecycle, Communications, Events, Sales) launch campaigns, ship landing pages, run experiments, and update content at speed. About the Team Web Engineering is a lean and scrappy team that owns ramp.com end-to-end - the Next.js application, Sanity CMS, in-house A/B experimentation platform, and internal applications that marketers use on top of all of it. Recent shipped projects include Kirby Prototyper (AI-assisted landing page creation), Sanity MCP with guardrails (agent-driven content workflows), an Ad-Agent to programmatically run Meta and Google ads, and AEO infrastructure that enables Ramp to be cited in AI search results. The next phase is making those platform pieces compound. We’re doubling down on tooling that turns marketing requests into self-serve workflows, and we’re hiring two backend product engineers to drive the roadmap forward. What you’ll do - Own the end-to-end development of self-serve tooling that converts repeated marketing asks into reusable platform capabilities. Examples on the near-term roadmap: an MCP integrated directly with our design system and Prototyper app that enables marketers to go from idea to content outline to production ready landing page in minutes, AI content writing workflows, self-improving experimentation tooling, and programmatic sales asset creation. - Be opinionated about agentic and AI-augmented workflows. Most of our compounding leverage comes from tooling that pairs an AI agent with strong guardrails. We expect engineers here to drive direction of the agent layer. - Partner directly with marketers, designers, and PMs to identify which workflows are highest-leverage to automate. The job is part platform engineer, part product engineer - user research and tight collaboration with non-engineers is an expectation. - Set the bar for velocity and quality. We're a small team with high stakes (this surface drives half of inbound SQLs). You should be the kind of engineer who ships at high velocity without compromising the brand or breaking the production funnel. - Reduce the team's ticket burden by making the request unnecessary. Success is measured not in tickets closed but in the percentage of marketing work that ships without you touching it. What you need - 4+ years of product engineering experience, ideally at a high-growth tech company, with a meaningful share of that time on user-facing or platform-tooling work. - Demonstrated track record of building internal tools or platforms that materially reduced repetitive workflows for non-engineers. We're hiring for force multipliers, not feature implementers. Our FE applications are built with Next.js and Sanity CMS for the marketing site (ramp.com) our backend services use a mix of Python/TypeScript. - Strong product instincts. You can tell the difference between tooling that compounds and tooling that's busywork. You're comfortable saying no, scoping down, and shipping the right 70% over the wrong 100%. - Comfort with AI/LLM-augmented engineering. You’ve built or shipped agentic workflows, MCP servers, or LLM-powered tooling - or you have a strong, opinionated POV on how to. - Velocity and ownership. You ship without supervision, take the next problem before it's assigned, and operate well in environments where the operating model is still being written. - Cross-functional empathy. You can sit next to a marketer, watch them struggle through a workflow, and walk away with a sharper sense of what to build than they could articulate. • Design, develop, and maintain the Transactional Billing Automation platform, including tracking contract information, prepaid usage blocks, rollovers, and calculating projected usage and balances. • Build and support responsive web application and RESTful APIs to automate transactional billing operations and reduce manual processing. • Develop dynamic UI components for managing customer contracts, multi-product selections, invoice details, and billing summaries. • Implement business logic for prepaid balances, rollover amounts, block total calculations, invoice validations, and contract lifecycle management. • Collaborate with product owners, software engineers, and QA engineers to gather billing requirements and deliver scalable automation solutions. • Create reusable components, clean architecture patterns, and well-documented APIs to improve maintainability and long-term scalability. • Develop unit tests, integration tests, and automated validation processes to ensure billing accuracy and support safe application enhancements. • Participate in code reviews and enforced coding standards, security best practices, and performance optimization techniques. • Develop operational dashboards and billing reports to provide visibility into contracts, prepaid usage, rollover balances, projected customer usage, and actual consumption trends. • Follow development standards, branching strategies, and pull request workflows to deliver clean, secure, and maintainable code through reviews and testing. • Support Agile development processes, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, demos, and retrospectives.

Role Description The Backend Engineer is responsible for the system to work behind the scenes. The role is to integrate the application with all required systems and services and provide clean and easy-to-use API for the frontend part of the system.
