About the Opportunity ControlPoint Technologies is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to provide project leadership within our Substation Engineering team. Candidates must have direct experience with substation projects for electric utilities. The projects will range from 4kV to 345kV and the candidate will be client facing and interface with the other disciplines. Project Management skills and ability to meet critical deadlines are required. Must be an outgoing team player with the ability to provide client confidence. Technical Responsibilities: Substation General Arrangement Control House Layout Plans and Sections Grounding Lightning Protection Conduit/trench Layout Material List Construction Specifications Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lightning protection, voltage drop, AC/DC load studies, etc.) Support/coordinate engineering and design related to Civil/Structural aspects of the designs Coordination with Protection Control Engineering Responsibilities: Project Engineering Lead Provide guidance and mentorship within engineering and design team Perform quality control/assurance reviews Project support from scoping to final design and project closeout Construction Support Strong client focus and customer service Excellent communication skills Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Professional Engineering Licensure (PE) is required, will accept candidates with Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) on path to Professional Engineering licensure. Role Description Welty Energy is looking for a Transmission Line Engineer II to join our Energy team! As a Transmission Line Engineer II, you will design high voltage transmission lines (34kV – 500kV). While this position can be remote, the hired team member is to be based in the state of OH, VA, WV, MD, PA (currently). Relocation and sponsorship is unfortunately not provided at this time. Day to day, you may: - Prepare construction plan documents as required per project. - Perform analysis/modeling of wood, steel, and lattice structures. - Be involved with consulting on select projects where your expertise and guidance is requested. - Provide technical assistance to the Welty Project Management Team as requested. - Perform site visits when necessary. - Interface with client’s engineering groups and project management team to provide regular and timely updates. - Consult on internal projects when requested by the PM, Portfolio Manager, or Executive Vice President. - Share knowledge and train oncoming Transmission Line Engineers. - Establish trust and healthy rapport with client and contract engineer firms. - Collaborate with Management Team to foster a productive and encouraging environment. - Ensure timesheet entries and expenses are appropriately applied to corresponding projects and submitted weekly. This role is planned to start in mid-Q1, with a training period of 4 weeks to reach full productivity by mid-Q2. What You’ll Do - Design & Optimize MV Infrastructure - Provides technical oversight and due diligence for medium-voltage (MV) collection systems across utility-scale power plants including MV cable systems and medium-voltage transformers (MVTs). - Own MV cable specifications and define installation requirements to ensure constructibility, safety, and long-term reliability. - Own technical requirements for MV cable testing and acceptance, and support troubleshooting and corrective actions for MV cable issues. - Own MVT specifications and lead transformer design reviews with OEMs. - Conduct vendor and MVT technical due diligence and support and/or witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs). - Provide technical oversight during construction and commissioning, including responding to RFIs, punchlist support, and root-cause analyses for MV collection equipment issues. - Provide construction, commissioning readiness input including receiving inspection, oil handling (where applicable), pre-energization checks, and acceptance documentation. - Ensure Safety, Compliance & Grid Alignment - Ensure all MV electrical infrastructure complies with NEC, IEEE, NESC, and other applicable safety codes and standards. - Guide short circuit, load flow, and protection coordination studies to validate system performance. - Support utility interconnection processes by aligning designs with grid operator and utility requirements. - Enable Scalable Project Delivery - Partner cross-functionally with Development, Engineering, and Construction teams to deliver technically sound solutions for IPP projects. - Review technical documentation and provide clear, actionable feedback to internal and external stakeholders. - Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining quality while meeting development and construction timelines. - Establish technical relationships with OEMs to understand design trade-offs and deliver a reliable product. - Maintain and continuously improve master specifications, test templates, FAT checklists, installation specs, commissioning checklists, and lessons learned. - Optimize system configurations to balance cost, constructability, and operational excellence. What You’ll Bring - BS in Electrical Engineering with minimum required experience; Masters or PhD is a plus. - Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. - 5–8 years of experience in medium voltage power engineering, ideally within utility-scale energy projects or IPPs. - Demonstrated experience designing, specifying and analyzing MV collection systems and transformer design due diligence for large-scale power plants. - Strong knowledge of MV collection construction means/methods and QA/QC practices. - Strong knowledge of short circuit, load flow, and protection coordination studies. - Working expertise in NEC, IEEE, NESC, utility interconnection requirements, and grid compliance standards. - Experience navigating IPP project lifecycles from development through commissioning. - Established relationships with utilities, EPC firms, engineering consultants, grid operators, and equipment vendors are a plus. - Ability to manage multiple complex projects while maintaining attention to detail and technical rigor. - A collaborative, humble approach with intellectual curiosity and a team-first mindset. - Alignment with Intersect’s Core Values of Equity, Humility, Authenticity, Long-run Value, and People Come First.
