Role Description We are looking for a Senior AI Engineer to help launch our brokerage into the next era of intelligent automation and AI-driven decision-making. This role will lead the design, development, and adoption of agentic AI systems that enhance how our teams work, how we serve customers, and how our business scales. You’ll combine deep technical expertise with hands-on leadership to bring AI from concept to production. This is a high-impact role with the opportunity to shape how AI is used across the entire organization, with the freedom to experiment, innovate, and build AI solutions that work. Responsibilities - AI Strategy & Architecture - Design and implement AI-driven systems that modernize brokerage operations, including quoting, underwriting support, customer service, and internal workflows. - Lead the development of agentic AI solutions that orchestrate tasks across systems, tools, and teams. - Evaluate, select, and integrate LLMs and platforms (including Gemini Enterprise, Claude, and other frontier models) to optimize enterprise business workflows. - Translate business problems into scalable AI architectures with clear ROI. - Architect and implement secure Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to seamlessly bridge large-scale data systems with real-time user interfaces. - Build and maintain full-stack data engineering pipelines, ensuring that LLM tool-calling actions can interact with enterprise data warehouses efficiently and securely. - Implement strict data governance, semantic caching, and guardrails (e.g., query row throttling, cost caps, and timeout limits) to safely manage automated database operations. - Hands-On Development - Build, test, and deploy AI-powered applications using modern programming languages and frameworks. - Develop and maintain prompt strategies, tool-using agents, and workflow automations. - Integrate AI solutions with existing systems, APIs, and data pipelines. - Ensure AI systems are secure, reliable, observable, and production-ready. - Enablement & Change Leadership - Coach and mentor functional programmers and engineers in adopting AI-assisted and AI-first development practices. - Help teams shift from traditional development workflows to AI-augmented engineering. - Contribute to the development of best practices, documentation, and internal standards for responsible AI use. - Serve as a collaborative advisor and resource, supporting teams across the organization in adopting and applying AI solutions. - Governance & Quality - Support the establishment and evolution of guardrails for AI usage, including data privacy, security, explainability, and compliance. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to monitor performance, bias, and cost of AI systems, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. - Stay informed on emerging AI technologies and contribute to recommendations on when and how Surex can adopt them effectively. Qualifications - Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with hands-on AI or ML development in production environments. - Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, or similar). - Proven experience working with large language models and modern AI frameworks. - Expert user in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) frameworks, specifically focusing on enterprise Vertex AI tools and Gemini Enterprise integrations. - Practical experience using tools like Claude, OpenAI, or equivalent for real-world applications. - Deep experience working with BigQuery or similar large-scale data warehouses, including writing, optimizing, and securing analytical queries. - Solid frontend development capabilities (e.g., TypeScript, React) to build the intuitive, AI-driven applications and dashboards used by end-users. - Hands-on experience with production-grade AI agent orchestration frameworks (such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or Vertex AI Agent Builder) and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) ecosystem. - Experience designing agent-based or workflow-driven AI systems. - Ability to explain complex AI concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. - Experience leading or influencing technical teams through major platform or workflow changes. - Background in financial services, insurance, fintech, or other regulated industries. - Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern DevOps practices. - Experience with data pipelines, vector databases, RAG architectures, and AI observability tools. - Passion for teaching, mentoring, and driving adoption—not just building in isolation. Benefits - Growth Opportunities – We invest in your professional development with clear career paths, mentorship, and ongoing training. - Innovative Environment – Work with cutting-edge tools and technologies in a culture that encourages creativity and forward-thinking. - Impactful Work – Your contributions make a real difference to our customers and the communities we serve. - Collaborative Culture – Join a team that values diversity, inclusion, and teamwork, where every voice matters. - Work-Life Balance – Flexible REMOTE work to support your personal and professional life. - Competitive Benefits – Comprehensive health & dental coverage to reward your hard work.
