Role Description Reporting to the Director of Underwriting, our underwriting professionals support our clients' outsourced underwriting needs in the analysis and evaluation of mortality and morbidity risks. The underwriter is responsible for examining the medical, financial and non-medical risk factors of life, disability and critical illness insurance applications. The Underwriter is responsible for making quality decisions in accordance with underwriting principles and guidelines, and for completing assigned tasks within service time expectations and other established deadlines. This role is remote, must be located in Canada. - Mortality/Morbidity Risk Analysis - determine appropriate underwriting requirements and assign cases to the appropriate risk category by analyzing and interpreting underwriting evidence for mortality and morbidity risk assessment. - Provides technical expertise and support to client companies. - Demonstrates an ability to work productively in high pressure environment and effectively and proactively manage challenging situations. - Act independently within specified authority. - Actively supports the departmental management by providing input, assisting in training, leading team discussions, participating in projects, and being a positive contributor to the resolution of technical or client issues. - Contribute to a positive working environment with teamwork and a spirit of innovation. - Participates in RGA events and industry activities and fosters relationships with key clients. Qualifications - College diploma / University degree or equivalent working experience. - Minimum of 6 years of individual life underwriting experience including experience with substandard business, medical and financial underwriting. - Service-oriented attitude with strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with our internal and external partners. - Strong communication skills, written and verbal. - Bilingual French/English (oral and written) is an asset. English is required as we need to communicate orally and in writing with a predominantly English-speaking clientele based outside of Quebec. - Multiple lines of business (Life, DI, CI) an asset. Qualifications - 8+ years of finance experience, ideally across strategic finance, FP&A, investment banking, growth equity, venture-backed startups, or high-growth consumer subscription businesses. - Strong strategic finance skill set, with the ability to connect financial analysis to company strategy and operating decisions. - Demonstrated ability to own financial models, forecasts, budgets, and scenario plans. - Deep understanding of SaaS or consumer subscription metrics, including ARR, retention, CAC, LTV, ROAS, payback, gross margin, burn, runway, and cash conversion. - Comfortable owning financial reporting and accounting oversight, even if supported by external accounting partners. - Strong analytical judgment: you can work through ambiguity, identify the signal in the noise, and translate data into clear recommendations. - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial concepts clearly and concisely to executives, investors, and cross-functional partners. - High ownership and strong attention to detail: you care deeply about accuracy, but you also know how to move quickly. - Comfortable operating in a lean startup environment where you will need to be both strategic and hands-on. - Strong business judgment and intellectual curiosity across growth, product, pricing, operations, and company strategy. - Low ego, high integrity, and motivated to help build something meaningful. - A team player who is able to work collaboratively with cross-functional partners.
