Role Description We are looking for a Procurement Manager to help lead Root’s procurement function as a strategic, technology-enabled partner to the business. This role will own complex sourcing, contracting, and vendor management work while coaching procurement team members and improving the processes and systems that support intake-to-pay operations. The right candidate is analytical, commercially minded, and comfortable operating across business teams, Legal, Finance, InfoSec, Privacy, IT, and vendors. They should bring strong procurement judgment, practical contracting experience, and the ability to use data, tools, and repeatable processes to improve speed, quality, and stakeholder experience. Salary Range: $100,700 - $125,800 (Eligible for competitive bonus and equity offering) Root is a “work where it works best” company. While this role may be performed remotely within the U.S., preference will be given to candidates based near our Columbus headquarters or to those who can travel to Columbus regularly for team meetings, stakeholder collaboration, and key business moments. Qualifications - 7+ years of procurement, sourcing, vendor management, or related experience, preferably in a technology-enabled, regulated, or fast-paced environment. - Experience managing, coaching, or developing procurement professionals or cross-functional project teams. - Strong commercial and contracting judgment, including experience with pricing, payment terms, renewals, SaaS agreements, SOWs, order forms, vendor risk, and negotiation strategy. - Experience working with Legal, Finance, InfoSec, Privacy, IT, Accounting, business leaders, and external vendors. - Strong analytical skills and comfort using data to manage performance, identify bottlenecks, and communicate progress. - Experience with procurement orchestration, CLM, sourcing, workflow, or contract repository tools. Zip, Ironclad, or DocuSign experience is a plus. - Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, clarify ambiguous requests, drive follow-up, and keep work moving. - Tech-savvy mindset with curiosity about automation, AI, workflow design, and scalable operating processes. - Insurance, financial services, SaaS, AI tooling, data, security, or technical procurement experience is a plus. - Bachelors degree with analytical focus and/or procurement, supply chain, program management, business, or relevant industry certifications preferred. Requirements - Lead complex sourcing, contracting, renewal, and vendor management initiatives across a range of business functions and vendor categories. - Partner with stakeholders to clarify scope, evaluate vendor options, negotiate commercial terms, and guide requests through Root’s procurement process. - Deliver measurable savings, cost avoidance, improved vendor value, and stronger commercial outcomes. - Negotiate and manage complex vendor contracts, including pricing, renewals, payment terms, usage rights, service levels, and vendor accountability. - Partner with Legal, Finance, InfoSec, Privacy, IT/IAM, Accounting, and business stakeholders to align vendor selection, risk review, budget approval, contracting, and implementation needs. - Ensure procurement requests are complete, accurately routed, and actively managed through intake, review, approval, contracting, signature, and renewal planning. - Identify opportunities to streamline vendor portfolios, consolidate spend, improve contract terms, and reduce operational friction. - Use data to monitor procurement performance, request health, savings realization, cycle time, throughput, and stakeholder experience. - Help Root buy the right things, the right way: balancing speed, commercial value, risk management, stakeholder enablement, and clean operational execution.
