Job Description As a Material Damage (MD) Claims Adjuster you will be responsible for investigating and confirming the facts of loss for automobile accidents. Applies analytical thinking to determine coverage, liability, damages and otherwise adjusts and negotiates claims within limit of authority. We are seeking an experienced Material Damage (MD) Claims Adjuster, preferably located in the CST or EST time zones. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, a strong customer service orientation, keen attention to detail, a metrics-driven mindset with the ability to meet performance goals and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Experience with end-to-end claims ownership, liability assessment, and coverage investigation, along with delivering a high level of service to policyholders throughout the claims process. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing high-exposure claims and complex federal and state civil lawsuits filed against the State of Arizona, its agencies, employees, and public universities. This position demands the expertise to navigate sensitive and often catastrophic matters, ranging from severe personal injury and wrongful death to civil rights litigation, employment disputes, and highway design liabilities. You will also address intricate cases involving professional errors and omissions, as well as critical child safety and foster parent liability issues within the Department of Child Safety. As a senior-level practitioner, you will perform work of extreme complexity with a high degree of autonomy and minimal supervision. The successful candidate must possess the analytical rigor to independently investigate major claims, establish accurate reserves, and prepare comprehensive settlement authority requests. Beyond file management, you will act as a primary negotiator with plaintiffs’ attorneys and pro se claimants, represent the State in mediations, and serve as a vital liaison between the Attorney General’s Office and outside counsel. • Review, validate, and process NEMT claims in accordance with Medicaid policies, GOBHI program guidelines, and contractual requirements. • Perform accurate billing and coding for NEMT claims using appropriate HCPCS/CPT codes. • Verify member eligibility, trip authorization, and service documentation prior to submission. • Ensure claims are submitted within required timelines and track adjudication through final payment. • Identify and resolve claim errors, discrepancies, and denials in coordination with providers and program staff. • Maintain current knowledge of Medicaid billing codes, guidelines, and NEMT-specific requirements. • Conduct regular audits of NEMT claims to detect and prevent errors, overpayments, or potential fraud. • Support corrective action plans and recommend process improvements to strengthen billing integrity. • Accurately code trips and services in compliance with Medicaid and NEMT guidelines. • Prepare, review and submit billing batches to Medicaid and other payers. • Reconcile claims against payments, identifying variances or unpaid balances. • Collaborate with GOBHI finance staff to support accurate accounting and reporting. • Generate and maintain reports on claims activity, denial rates, and reimbursement trends. • Provide data analysis to identify cost drivers, claim patterns, and areas for improvement. • Serve as a resource for NEMT providers regarding Medicaid billing procedures, documentation, and claim resolution. • Upon supervisor’s approval and direction, update and maintain provider rate contracts. • Provide training and technical assistance to providers on coding, billing, and submission processes. • Other duties as assigned.
