• Design, develop, and maintain decision services using Drools (DRL); migrate legacy workflows to cloud-native Kogito microservices. • Build and manage AWS Bedrock Knowledge Bases to enable accurate, context-aware AI responses. • Create automated pipelines to extract, clean, and convert legacy documentation into optimized formats (Markdown/vector-ready), stored in Amazon S3. • Develop secure, high-performance REST APIs using Quarkus or Spring Boot to integrate chatbot capabilities into Java applications. • Deploy and scale business automation services in Kubernetes/OpenShift environments. • Collaborate with engineering and product stakeholders to improve decision accuracy, performance, and maintainability.

• Designing and owning core backend architecture in Rust (async-first) • Defining service boundaries, data ownership, and evolution strategy • Designing scalable APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) for mobile and web clients • Modeling and operating PostgreSQL as a long-term source of truth • Architecting real-time systems (feeds, messaging, event-driven workflows) • Making tradeoffs around consistency, latency, and scalability • Working with DevOps while retaining backend architectural authority • Reviewing critical code paths and preventing premature complexity • Helping shape the backend team as the company grows

• Codebase ownership — senior developer and technical area owner for the platform and ancillary projects, working alongside the Director of Engineering on architecture decisions. • Releases and deployments — working within Soutron's established release process; understanding the current manual release cycle across 8 production servers and proposing improvements toward automated, pipeline-driven deployments. • Infrastructure awareness — not directly responsible for server administration, but expected to have working knowledge of the infrastructure stack (Debian Linux, Nginx, Apache/mod_perl, MariaDB/Galera, Solr, PowerDNS, Let's Encrypt) and to proactively identify and propose improvements to existing infrastructure patterns. • Mentorship & engineering culture — share knowledge with peers, help raise the team's technical standards, and contribute to code review and engineering best practices. • Security and compliance — dependency scanning, penetration testing coordination, MFA rollout, SOC 2 readiness roadmap. • Platform modernization — progressively evolving the stack toward modern patterns (REST API layer, frontend modernization, containerization) without disrupting a live production system.
