Job Responsibilities - Leadership: Lead, recruit, and mentor a team of existing and prospective air compliance scientists, engineers, and/or other professionals and foster a collaborative and productive work environment. - Business Development: Leverage and develop relationships to expand and generate client leads and secure contracts in key industry sectors, including insurance, heavy industry, energy, and manufacturing. - Project Oversight: Manage multiple large and complex projects, either single or multi-site, from inception to completion. - Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and deliver high quality work product on complex air compliance regulatory issues, including collaborating with other service lines to effectively serve diverse clients. - Permitting & Compliance: Advise clients on permitting requirements and develop timely and exceptional quality permitting submissions, including any required air emission inventories, emissions calculations, and other compliance documentation. - Regulatory: Develop timely and innovative regulatory compliance strategies and effectively communicate with regulatory agencies in multiple jurisdictions about regulatory and/or legislative requirements. - Project Development: Assist clients in scoping and planning related to air-focused regulatory requirements and potential impacts to air quality. - Technical Reporting: Produce high quality technical reports and perform QA/QC on project reports prepared by other air compliance team members. We're looking for: A Director of Engineering who will lead and scale Nitra's engineering organization as we build the AI-native operating system for healthcare finance and operations. This is a senior leadership role for a high-output operator who thrives in fast-moving environments, knows how to build and develop world-class engineering teams, and can bridge our US and Taipei engineering operations seamlessly. Your responsibilities will include: - Leading and scaling a distributed engineering team across the US East Coast and Taipei, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture across time zones - Setting technical direction and engineering standards across the organization, ensuring Nitra's platform is built for scale, reliability, and speed - Partnering closely with Product and Design to define roadmap priorities and translate them into executable engineering plans - Owning end-to-end delivery of engineering projects — from architecture decisions to shipping production-grade features - Recruiting, developing, and retaining top engineering talent, with a particular focus on building depth in the Taipei engineering hub - Establishing engineering processes, sprint cadences, and communication rhythms that keep a distributed team aligned and moving fast - Working directly with executive leadership to communicate engineering capacity, risks, and technical strategy - Driving a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across the engineering organization You have: - 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in an engineering leadership or management role - Proven track record of building, managing, and scaling engineering teams in a high-growth, VC-backed startup environment - Full professional fluency in Mandarin — you can lead meetings, give feedback, and build relationships natively with our Taipei team - Demonstrated comfort operating across US and Taiwan time zones, with willingness to split time between the US East Coast and Taipei as needed - Deep experience with modern software architecture, cloud infrastructure, and building scalable platforms in production - Strong product instincts — you understand how engineering decisions translate into customer outcomes and business results - Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Design, and business stakeholders at a senior level - A track record of hiring and developing strong engineering talent, including building distributed and international teams - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin - High standards for code quality, system reliability, and engineering craft — and the ability to hold a team to those standards without slowing it down We offer: - Equity - Everyone at Nitra is an owner. The base salary range for this full-time position is $225,000 – $275,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
