Role Description We are seeking a versatile Senior Fullstack Java Developer who can contribute across both backend and UI development. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong backend expertise in Java who is also comfortable working on frontend components and collaborating with design teams when needed. The ideal candidate does not need to be a dedicated UI expert, but should be capable of supporting and implementing user interface work as part of a fullstack engineering role. Experience or familiarity with Figma is highly desirable to help translate designs into functional applications and collaborate effectively with product and design teams. Responsibilities and Duties - Design, develop, and maintain scalable fullstack applications with a primary focus on Java backend development. - Build and enhance frontend/UI components as needed to support product initiatives. - Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high-quality user experiences. - Work with Figma designs and mockups to implement responsive and functional interfaces. - Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services. - Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews. - Troubleshoot and resolve issues across both backend and frontend layers. - Ensure code quality, performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Contribute to CI/CD processes, testing strategies, and deployment workflows. - Mentor junior developers and promote engineering best practices. Qualifications - 5–8+ years of experience in software engineering or fullstack development. - Strong hands-on experience with Java and modern backend frameworks (Spring Boot preferred). - Frontend technologies such as JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Angular, or similar. - Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs. - Strong understanding of fullstack application architecture. - Ability to contribute to both backend and UI work as needed. - Familiarity with responsive design and frontend best practices. - Experience with version control systems (Git). - Strong problem-solving and debugging skills. Desirable Experience - Experience or familiarity with Figma for collaborating with design teams and implementing UI designs. - Exposure to modern UI/UX workflows and component-based design systems. - Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. - Experience with containerization tools such as Docker or Kubernetes. • Translate software requirements into working and maintainable solutions within the existing application frameworks • Apply technical proficiency across different stages of the Software Development Life Cycle • Gather accurate requirements and work closely with stakeholders to prioritize tasks • Back-end Java web application development • Work with multiple APIs in a microservice architecture • Develop using containerized services designed to run in Kubernetes and the cloud • Provide documentation and unit tests for completed tasks • Actively communicate with a remote team working in an agile environment

• Lead and mentor a team of mid/senior backend engineers (4–5), including 1:1s, feedback, and performance management • Translate product and business goals into clear technical roadmaps, sprint plans, and backend priorities • Own the backend architecture and technical vision for mobile-first, consumer-facing apps used by tens of thousands of daily active users • Drive and oversee implementation of new features for our mobile apps, working closely with iOS/Android, Product, Data, DevOps and Trust & Safety teams • Take key architectural decisions around scalability, performance, reliability, data flows, and infrastructure on AWS • Modernise and improve a large, Ruby on Rails codebase (including version upgrades and refactoring legacy areas) while keeping systems stable in production • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, improve API speed and reliability, and design effective caching and database strategies • Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, coding standards, code review practices, and deployment/CI pipelines • Create and maintain clear technical documentation and design specs for backend systems and major initiatives • Handle prioritisation and trade-offs in a fast-moving environment with changing quarterly priorities • Be hands-on with coding and code reviews, especially for complex or high-impact areas, and step in during critical production incidents

• Performing full‑stack development for client/server Java applications • Designing, developing, and maintaining responsive web interfaces using React • Maintaining current knowledge of relevant technologies • Generating new code and enhancing or refactoring existing code to meet requirements • Participating in the design, coding, testing, and debugging of new or existing software • Troubleshooting technical issues and providing support for application and system functions
