Title: Staff Actuary - Valuation Location: New York, New York EmblemHealth Job Description: REMOTE Summary of Position - Provide the analytical resources necessary for the development of overall pricing and reserve setting strategies. - Lead projects to analyze current rate structures and develop improvements and alternatives. - Coordinate the actuarial staff as needed to support the activities of the affiliates. Principal Accountabilities - Work closely with Senior Product Management and Finance to analyze financial performance of blocks of business, including membership, trend, and financial analyses. - Identify opportunities to improve product performance in collaboration with all areas of the organization. - Oversee the development and filing of premium rates for all products with the appropriate regulatory authority (e.g., CMS, New York Dep’t of Health). - Work closely with Risk Adjustment and other areas to optimize risk adjustment and related programs to increase Emblem’s premium revenue for these segments. - Supervise and develop direct reports accountable for Medicare and State Sponsored areas, as well as other staff. - Regular attendance is an essential function of the job. This credentialed healthcare actuary would drive high-visibility impactful analysis and would be responsible for developing and driving medical cost improvement strategies, including: - Evaluating program and initiative outcomes. - Interpreting cost and trend driver analysis to generate new initiative ideas. - Presenting findings to leadership. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics or related field. - ASA or FSA certification. - 5+ years of experience in actuarial work in a health insurance, managed care or related consulting business; or equivalent training, education and/or experience. - Experience in evaluation of medical cost and utilization savings initiatives, statistical techniques for the evaluation of clinical programs, trend analysis, population health, utilization management (UM) / care management (CM) / disease management (DM) analysis is a strong preference. - Experience with commercial and government health programs is preferred. - In-depth understanding of health insurance market dynamics. - Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Adaptability and ability to prioritize effectively. - Strong PC skills. - Data retrieval skills and relational database experience are required, including SQL and/or SAS. - Data visualization experience is preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances - A.S.A. or F.S.A. certification by Society of Actuaries. - Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries.
