Role Description The Security Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the security engineering function that supports the Everforth Security Operations Center (SOC). This role oversees the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the technologies, detections, telemetry pipelines, and automation capabilities that enable effective enterprise security monitoring and incident detection. The Security Engineering Manager ensures the reliability, scalability, and operational effectiveness of SOC technology platforms and detection capabilities. This role reports directly to the SOC Director and works closely with the SOC Manager, enterprise IT teams, and platform owners to maintain enterprise visibility and continuously improve the organization’s detection and response capabilities. - Security Platform Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of core SOC security platforms including SIEM, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and related security monitoring technologies. - Security Telemetry Integration: Ensure enterprise security telemetry sources are properly onboarded, normalized, and integrated into the SOC monitoring environment. - SIEM Operations: Manage the performance, reliability, and data pipelines associated with the SIEM platform, ensuring high availability and effective data ingestion across enterprise environments. - Security Automation Development: Lead the implementation of automation and orchestration capabilities to improve investigation efficiency and reduce manual analyst workload. - Engineering Support for Investigations: Provide technical expertise and engineering support to SOC analysts during complex investigations and incident response activities. - Technology Roadmap Development: Develop and maintain the SOC security technology roadmap to support evolving enterprise security monitoring requirements. - Integration with Enterprise Systems: Work closely with enterprise IT, cloud engineering, and infrastructure teams to integrate new systems, applications, and platforms into SOC monitoring. - Operational Reliability: Ensure SOC technology platforms operate with high reliability, appropriate data retention, and strong performance across enterprise telemetry sources. - Engineering Documentation: Maintain technical documentation for detection logic, telemetry pipelines, automation workflows, and SOC platform architecture. - Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor the security engineering team responsible for SOC platform operations and detection development. Qualifications - Experience: Minimum of 10 years of cybersecurity or security engineering experience, with significant experience supporting large enterprise security programs. - Engineering Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience managing security engineering, detection engineering, or security platform engineering teams. - Security Platform Expertise: Strong experience managing enterprise security platforms such as SIEM, EDR, and security telemetry pipelines. - Security Architecture Knowledge: Strong understanding of enterprise security architecture, logging strategies, and monitoring coverage across infrastructure, cloud, and identity platforms. - Security Automation Knowledge: Experience implementing automation workflows to improve SOC operational efficiency. - Operational Reliability Management: Experience managing platform performance, data ingestion pipelines, and monitoring infrastructure at enterprise scale. - Security Framework Knowledge: Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CIS Critical Security Controls, and ISO 27001. Requirements - Able and willing to obtain a US Security Clearance. - This role may require occasional on-call support during off-hours to respond to security incidents. • Own the engineering team: manage daily scrums, lead weekly team meetings, and set direction on priorities, blockers, and technical approach • Define and drive the organization's AI and technology strategy, including platform selection, architecture patterns, and build-vs-buy decisions • Design and own AI/ML architecture across cloud platforms (AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI), establishing standards for RAG implementations, agent orchestration, and model selection • Contribute directly to production codebases; this is a hands-on role, not management from a distance • Architect agentic systems using modern patterns: MCP (Model Context Protocol), tool-use, function calling, and multi-step orchestration frameworks • Own the full data quality pipeline upstream of RAG: document ingestion architecture, parsing strategies, chunking methodology, and continuous iteration based on retrieval performance • Define and implement observability strategy, evaluation frameworks, production metrics, drift detection, and quality monitoring for deployed AI systems • Own cost optimization: model selection tradeoffs, token economics, usage monitoring, and budget forecasting at enterprise scale • Hire, mentor, and develop engineers; build a high-performing team culture that balances speed with code quality and system longevity • Establish and refine engineering processes: CI/CD pipelines, git workflow standards, SDLC documentation, code review practices, and onboarding programs • Develop AI-assisted development workflows and tooling that create a multiplying effect on team productivity • Define guardrails, compliance patterns, and scalability strategies for AI systems handling PHI • Collaborate with Operations, Compliance/Legal, and business stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and deliver AI use cases • Ensure all engineering and AI implementations comply with HIPAA and organizational data governance requirements • Report to the CTO on team performance, technical direction, and strategic roadmap
