Job Description

Contractor - Civil/Structural Engineer

NuScale Power, LLC

Role Description This is a contract position anticipated to last 12 months or longer, and available to be fully remote within the contiguous United States. Applies technical knowledge, insight, reasoning, and decision making to perform civil structural analyses and design of Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures. Candidates should possess a strong design background and be proficient in structural concrete and steel analysis and design. Candidate shall be capable of leading technical activities and provide effective technical mentorship to less experienced engineers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Serves as subject matter expert in the civil structural design areas. - Resolves technical issues and coordinates discussions with interdisciplinary stakeholders. - Works on highly complex tasks and proposes innovative design solutions. - Develops technical expertise to bring in advanced technical capabilities. - Uses structural engineering tools and implements appropriate standards. - Interfaces with NuScale Licensing in support of regulatory efforts. - Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants. - Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members. - Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies. - Possesses strong written and oral communication skills. - Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications - A minimum of a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school is required. - An advanced degree is preferred. - A registered professional engineer license (P.E.) is strongly preferred. Requirements - Minimum of 12 years of full-time, highly relevant experience as a Structural Design Engineer. - In-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theories. - Strong technical writing skills and good communication skills. - Exceptional organization and time management skills. - Experience in design and analysis of structures, including concrete and steel. - Familiarity with design software and finite element method analyses. - Preferred experience with codes: ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, AISC N690. - Use of ANSYS and SAP2000 is preferred but not required. - Computer programming skills (e.g., Matlab, or Python) are preferred but not required. - Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810. Physical Demands - Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers. - Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend new concepts quickly. - Frequent requirements to sit, stand, walk, bend, use hands to operate office equipment, and reach with hands and arms. - Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation.
