Job Summary The Underwriter is responsible for analyzing each loan application package to determine the borrower’s ability and willingness to repay the debt and the value of the property taken as collateral. Based on this determination, the underwriter will either approve or deny the loan package as appropriate. The Underwriter ensures all applicable Federal, State and Investor requirements have been adhered to. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Reviews and underwrites loan files accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with Company guidelines. Verifies documentation is complete and works with operations staff to collect additional information as necessary. Adds conditions to file if necessary in order to complete the underwriting process. - Analyzes credit documents, including but not limited to, mortgage applications, credit history and income documents, title documents, appraisals and all applicable compliance documents. - Approves or declines loans within limits of assigned authority. Communicates decision to appropriate individuals within the Company upholding fair lending practices. - Performs other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Education - High school diploma or equivalent required Experience - Minimum of three year’s experience as a Conventional mortgage underwriter, Junior Underwriter, or a Senior level Processor Functional/Technical Skills - Thorough understanding of credit and an ability to review complex financial documents - Effective written and verbal communication skills - Strong analytical skills with the ability to think outside of the box - Demonstrates a commitment to quality customer service - Strong attention to detail - Excellent problem solving skills and ability to make sound judgments in a fast-paced environment - Well organized with the ability to multi-task - Demonstrates strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines - Works well with others - Proficient in all compliance-related regulations including RESPA - Strong mathematical skills - Strong PC skills (MS Office products) and experience with mortgage origination systems Environmental/Physical Demands Work is typically performed in a standard office environment.
