Job Description

Senior Manager, Engineering - Enterprise Audit

Smartsheet

For over 20 years, Smartsheet has helped people and teams achieve–well, anything. From seamless work management to smart, scalable solutions, we’ve always worked with flow. We’re building tools that empower teams to automate the manual, uncover insights, and scale smarter. But more than that, we’re creating space– space to think big, take action, and unlock the kind of work that truly matters. Because when challenge meets purpose, and passion turns into progress, that’s magic at work, and it’s what we show up for everyday. As a global leader in Collaborative Work Management and with a market cap of $10bn, we’re scaling our EMEA engineering presence rapidly and are on a strong growth trajectory to 80+ engineers in 2026. You will report to an Engineering Director You Will: - Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team responsible for Enterprise Audit capabilities (e.g., audit trail, admin activity tracking, audit log APIs/exports, retention policies, and audit experiences). - Define and drive the Enterprise Audit roadmap in partnership with Product, Security, Compliance, and other engineering teams—balancing customer value, compliance requirements, and platform sustainability. - Own architecture and delivery of highly reliable, secure, and scalable audit systems, including event capture, processing, storage, and query/reporting at enterprise scale. - Build audit as a platform capability with strong guarantees (integrity, durability, tamper resistance, and clear schemas), enabling other teams to emit and consume auditable events consistently. - Embed security and privacy into everything (least privilege, encryption, defensible access patterns, data minimization, and clear retention/deletion behaviors). - Establish operational excellence: SLIs/SLOs, monitoring, incident response, capacity planning, and on-call health for audit services. - Coach and develop engineers and leads, creating a strong culture of ownership, high-quality delivery, and continuous improvement. - Communicate clearly and proactively with stakeholders and leadership on progress, tradeoffs, risks, and outcomes. What You Will Achieve in Your First 360 Days - First 30 days: Understand current audit capabilities, event sources, data flows, and customer requirements; build strong relationships with Security/Compliance and key partner teams. - 60–90 days: Clarify the technical and product roadmap, improve team execution, and introduce/strengthen best practices for audit event quality, reliability, and operational readiness. - 6 months: Deliver meaningful enterprise audit improvements (e.g., expanded coverage of auditable actions, improved exportability, stronger retention controls, or better performance at scale) with measurable customer and operational impact. - 360 days: Establish a durable Enterprise Audit foundation—scalable, secure, and extensible—positioning Smartsheet as a trusted platform for regulated and security-conscious enterprises. You Have - 10+ years in software development, including experience building distributed systems and production services at scale. - 5+ years managing engineering teams with a strong track record of coaching, delivery, and talent development. - Experience designing systems that emphasize data integrity, traceability, and reliability (audit/logging, compliance platforms, security telemetry, billing/ledger-like systems, etc.). - Strong understanding of security fundamentals (authN/authZ, RBAC, encryption, secure-by-design practices) and how they apply to enterprise audit requirements. - Proven ability to partner cross-functionally, align priorities, and deliver through ambiguity. - Strong Agile delivery habits and a pragmatic approach to balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability. - Legally eligible to work in Bulgaria on an ongoing basis. - Fluency in English is required. Why Should You Join Us? - Lead a mission-critical capability that directly supports Enterprise trust, governance, and compliance. - Build foundational platform services used across product areas and relied on by our largest customers. - Influence technical direction and team culture in a high-growth engineering organization. - Work in a supportive, inclusive environment where your voice and leadership make a visible impact. Get to Know Us: At Smartsheet, your ideas are heard, your potential is supported, and your contributions have real impact. You’ll have the freedom to explore, push boundaries, and grow beyond your role. We welcome diverse perspectives and nontraditional paths—because we know that impact comes from individuals who care deeply and challenge thoughtfully. When you’re doing work that stretches you, excites you, and connects you to something bigger, that’s magic at work. Let’s build what’s next, together. Equal Opportunity Employer: Smartsheet is an Equal Opportunity (EEO) employer committed to fostering an inclusive environment with the best employees. It is our policy to provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants in accordance with applicable laws in the US, UK, Australia, Germany, Costa Rica, Japan, Bulgaria, and India.
