This is a hands-on individual contributor role who will design, build, and own solutions, not just advise on them. This role is not a traditional DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering role. It is an engineering and architecture position responsible for shaping the cloud platform itself, ensuring it is a resilient, secure, and repeatable infrastructure through code environment built for long‑term growth. The individual in this position will work closely with security, data, AI, operations, and application teams to bring structure, clarity, and consistency to how we use AWS across the enterprise. First 60 Days – Contribute and Improve • Deliver one or more meaningful improvements to the AWS platform such as enhanced VPC patterns, routing adjustments, logging improvements, or security hardening. • Propose standardized patterns for VPC design, segmentation, connectivity, and governance. • Begin developing or refining reusable IaC modules and platform patterns. • Partner with security to validate identity, encryption, and network controls across the AWS environment. • Provide initial architectural recommendations for AI infrastructure related to compute, networking, and secure data access. First 90 Days – Lead and Own • Present a six month AWS platform roadmap covering networking, automation, governance, observability, and operational maturity. • Establish foundational cloud and networking standards that can be adopted across engineering and operations teams. • Deliver reusable IaC patterns that become core building blocks for future deployments. • Implement at least one production ready improvement supporting AI or data workloads such as secure network paths, compute patterns, or standardized data access models. • Become the recognized internal authority for AWS networking and platform architecture with cross team trust and alignment. During a Typical Day, You’ll AWS Cloud and Platform Architecture • Design and maintain a well governed AWS environment spanning multiple accounts and workload types. • Establish standards for VPC design, routing, segmentation, DNS, identity models, encryption, and resource organization. • Guide architectural decisions to ensure alignment with security, compliance, and operational expectations. • Maintain and evolve tagging frameworks, guardrails, governance models, and platform design patterns. Network Architecture and Connectivity • Architect VPC designs across AWS Control Tower accounts, including OU structure and guardrails. • Design Transit Gateway routing, VPC peering, PrivateLink, and hybrid connectivity. • Define network segmentation, security groups, NACLs, and Route 53 Resolver DNS design. • Lead Terraform and CloudFormation automation for network infrastructure as code. • Implement network controls aligned with AWS Well-Architected and security compliance. • Ensure network foundations support high availability, resilience, and zero trust principles. Infrastructure as Code and Platform Reliability • Use modern infrastructure automation frameworks to define and manage AWS resources in a consistent and repeatable way. • Develop reusable infrastructure modules and patterns to enforce platform standards and reduce configuration drift. • Implement automated validation, testing, and deployment pipelines for infrastructure changes. • Strengthen observability through improvements to logging, metrics, alerting, and platform analytics. AI Related Infrastructure Enablement • Partner with data and AI engineering teams to ensure the cloud platform supports secure and scalable AI workloads. • Provide architectural guidance for compute, storage, and networking resources required by AI systems. • Establish secure patterns for data access, API usage, and AI workload placement within AWS. • Ensure AI solutions follow cloud governance, cost controls, and security expectations across environments. Cross Team Collaboration and Cloud Governance • Collaborate with security, enterprise systems, data engineering, and application teams to ensure aligned cloud adoption. • Participate in technical architecture discussions and contribute AWS networking and platform expertise. • Document and maintain cloud standards, reference architectures, design guidelines, and operational playbooks. • Serve as a trusted technical advisor for AWS platform direction, network design, and cloud strategy.
