Job Requirements
- Associate degree or two years of college coursework in Health Information Management or equivalent work experience (2 years professional or outpatient facility coding)
- AHIMA: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P or AAPC: CPC, COC, CRC, CPMA
- Preferred Experience in a pediatric acute care setting

Throughout the course, you will learn key accountancy principles, gain experience with financial transactions, and develop expertise in using Sage software for a wide range of accounting tasks. By the end of the programme, you will have built practical bookkeeping competence, strengthened your understanding of financial reporting, and gained confidence working with industry-standard systems. There is no requirement for you to possess prior knowledge of accountancy. The course is Level 3 and aimed at those wishing to expand their knowledge and move into entry-level finance roles. Role Description Under the supervision of the Director of Health Information Management (HIM), this position is responsible for the coding analysis of medical documentation, including research and review of medical and coding guidelines and assignment of codes for claim submission. Recommends data queries/coaching feedback to clinicians to maximize correct coding compliance with the Correct Coding Initiatives. Responsible to resolve coding issues on claims identified in the billing process. Performance Improvement screening/abstraction utilizing established criteria. Assists with public reporting of these measures. Assists clinicians in improving the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation. Assigns deficiencies for chart completion when applicable. Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Coding of all medical claims according to correct coding initiatives and certified coding rules and regulations to ensure prompt claims payment on a daily basis. - Reviewing of claim denials appeals and resubmission of denied claims, tracking of trends in denials to ensure prompt payments. - Suggestions and training to provider staff on the maximization of revenue billed through utilization of Correct Coding Initiatives. - Works with providers regarding completion of documentation in order to appropriately remain compliant and encourage revenue growth opportunities. - Assists with data abstraction of quality measures and reporting to appropriate organization. - Reviews records for required documentation and assigns deficiencies when applicable. - Resolves charting issues with care team. Qualifications - Associates degree in coding or health information technology, or equivalent education/experience to successfully pass the AAPC certification exam. - National coding certification or equivalent experience with a plan to become certified within one year of hire.
