EPC Substation Engineer
K&A Engineering
• Lead or support the design of HV/MV substations (69kV-500kV) including physical layout, grounding, protection & control, and equipment specifications • Develop engineering deliverables such as one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment plans • Substation Design includes the creation of substation construction drawing packages, developing bill of materials and the procurement of minor materials • Ensure designs comply with NESC, IEEE, NEC, and utility standards • Collaborate closely with procurement, construction, and project management teams throughout the EPC lifecycle • Provide engineering support during construction, including RFIs, field changes, and technical clarifications • Review vendor drawings, equipment submittals, and technical documentation • Participate in constructability reviews and support commissioning activities
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years of substation engineering experience within utilities, EPC firms, or engineering consultancies
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage substation design, protection & control, and physical layout
- Experience working in an EPC project environment (preferred: full lifecycle exposure)
- Proficiency with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar
- Understanding of industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, utility specs)
- Excellent communication and remote collaboration skills
- EIT certification or PE license is a plus
- Past project experience working with large utilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Projects, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Must be able to travel for meetings or site visits.
