DevOps Engineer

SES Corporation

This role supports the U.S. Air Force Cloud One Architecture and Common Shared Services contract and currently has an opening for a DevOps Engineer. SES is seeking a DevOps Engineer supporting AWS, Azure, GCP, and Oracle Clouds. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to modernize a leading, global-scale multi-cloud environment in support of a critical mission, supporting USAF system resiliency, security, and cost effectiveness.    Location: This position will be remote.

Job Requirements

  • Candidates for this role should demonstrate working knowledge in the following areas:
  • AWS Infrastructure Fundamentals
  • o   Understanding of core AWS services (EC2, EBS, VPC, IAM, S3)
  • Ability to manage, troubleshoot, and maintain cloud-based infrastructure
  • Familiarity with networking concepts (subnets, security groups, routing)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • o   Experience writing, modifying, and deploying Terraform configurations
  • Understanding of state management, modules, and environment separation
  • o   Ability to troubleshoot failed deployments and configuration issues
  • Git-Based Source Control (GitLab Preferred)
  • o   Proficiency with Git workflows (branching, merging, version control)
  • o   Experience working with GitLab or similar platforms
  • o   Ability to manage and review infrastructure code changes
  • CI/CD Pipelines
  • o   Understanding of pipeline-based deployments (build, test, deploy stages)
  • o   Experience troubleshooting pipeline failures
  • o   Familiarity with automating infrastructure deployments
  • System Administration (Linux/Server Management)
  • o   Basic system administration skills (file systems, services, permissions)
  • o   Experience managing server configurations and performance
  • o   Ability to troubleshoot system-level issues
  • Security Hardening & STIG Compliance
  • o   Familiarity with system hardening practices
  • o   Understanding of STIGs or similar security baselines
  • o   Ability to apply and validate secure configurations
  • Backup and Recovery Operations
  • o   Understanding of backup strategies and data protection concepts
  • o   Experience verifying backups and performing restore operations
  • o   Awareness of disaster recovery principles
  • ServiceNow (Basic Administration)
  • o   General familiarity with ServiceNow platform structure and environments
  • o   Ability to support administrative tasks and environment operations
  • o   Understanding of how platform performance ties to underlying infrastructure
  • Troubleshooting & Operational Support
  • o   Ability to diagnose issues across infrastructure, pipelines, and applications
  • o   Strong problem-solving skills across multiple technical layers
  • o   Experience supporting production systems
  • Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's and 8+ years or more of experience; Master's and 6+ years or more of experience. Additional experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Interim Secret clearance required to start; Ability to obtain Secret clearance required to maintain employment

Infrastructure & Cloud Management - Design, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure across development, QA, and production environments in AWS and co-location facilities. - Collaborate with developers and architects to select appropriate cloud resources, balancing performance, cost, and security. - Continuously improve infrastructure through automation and best practices. CI/CD & Automation - Build, optimize, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, reliable releases. - Drive automation efforts across infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployments. - Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes and improve efficiency. Site Reliability & Operations - Monitor system performance and availability, ensuring high uptime and rapid issue resolution. - Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response efforts when needed. - Develop and maintain runbooks, documentation, and post-incident reviews to improve operational maturity. - Help reduce MTTR through proactive monitoring and process improvements. Security & Compliance - Implement and maintain security best practices across infrastructure and systems. - Support SOC2 compliance efforts, including audit readiness, logging, and traceability. - Manage and enhance SIEM tools and monitoring solutions to ensure visibility into system health and security.
