Fastly’s customers include many of the world’s most prominent companies, including GitHub, Yelp, Paramount, and JetBlue. We're building a more trustworthy Internet. Come join us. Posting Open Date: April 7, 2026 Anticipated Posting Close Date*: April 30, 2026 *Job posting may close early due to the volume of applicants. Technical Writer (This role can be remote within the US) Fastly's Documentation team makes edge computing, cloud security, and content delivery delightfully easy to understand. We're looking for a Technical Writer who can tell customers not just how to use our products but when and why they'd want to, and turn that into documentation that makes them feel capable, not confused. You'll work alongside a small, collaborative team that believes documentation is a product, one that Fastly displays with pride. If you get a kick out of structuring information so well that customers can solve problems on their own, finding the signal in the noise of dense technical material, and writing content where every word earns its place, we'd love to hear from you. What You'll Do: - Own documentation for Fastly products and features from kickoff through publication. You'll work with product managers, engineers, and subject matter experts to translate technical complexity into clear content. - Write and maintain different types of documentation, including tutorials, how-to guides, technical references, and explanations, understanding what each one is for and when customers need which. - Contribute to information architecture improvements that make our documentation easier to navigate, reducing the distance between a customer's question and the answer they need. - Review your teammates' work with a thoughtful eye for clarity, consistency, and alignment with our style, tone, and voice guidelines, and welcome the same from them. - Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Client Services to ensure documentation stays accurate as products evolve and customer needs shift. - Support engineers and developers who contribute to documentation directly, helping them improve their writing through content reviews and guidance. What We're Looking For: - A bachelor's degree or equivalent training in technical communication, and typically 4 or more years of professional experience not just documenting how something works, but understanding when and why a customer would need it. - Experience writing for diverse technical audiences, from software developers and security engineers to DevOps teams and engineering leadership, with the judgment to calibrate depth and tone for each. - The ability to break down projects into tasks, plan and estimate the work, and regularly meet deadlines, taking ownership of your work while knowing when to loop in the team. You know the docs don't write themselves. - Solid command of docs-as-code tooling: version control systems (e.g., Git), lightweight markup languages (e.g., Markdown, MDX), and collaborative workflows built around code review concepts. - A growth mindset when it comes to feedback: you actively seek it, you apply it, and you give it constructively. You'd still rather put something out there for the team to tear apart than have everyone stare at a blank page. We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these: - Working with CDN, edge computing, web security, or cloud infrastructure products. - Working in environments where documentation carries contractual or legal weight, where word choices matter beyond just style. - Using the Diataxis documentation framework (or a similar structured content methodology) to organize and improve documentation sets. - Writing or maintaining API reference documentation, especially for RESTful APIs. - Contributing to accessibility initiatives, ensuring documentation works for all users regardless of ability. - Experience with static site generators (Gatsby, Astro, Hugo) or custom documentation tooling. Work Hours: - This position will require you to be available during core business hours. Work Location(s) & Travel Requirements: This position is a remote role and open to candidates residing in the United States. We have Fastly offices if you are based in San Francisco, CA; Denver, CO; or New York, NY. This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager. SF / LA Fair Chance Ordinance Statement Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records. Salary: The estimated salary range for this position is $97,070 to $137,040. Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location. This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs. Benefits: We care about you.
