Structural Engineer – Renewables

• Performs preliminary and final structural foundation design, and supports other civil, structural, and electrical design workflows as necessary on a case-by-case basis • Reviews geotechnical reports, field photographs, site topography and geology, and public soils data sources and makes recommendations on additional field and laboratory testing necessary to produce the required downstream civil, structural, and electrical design deliverables • Reviews and/or specifies pile test programs for utility scale renewable energy projects • Checks design computations performed by internal structural staff when appropriate • Performs pile lateral analysis to determine pile deflections at elevations of interest • Builds proprietary design tools suitable for own use and use by other qualified team members • Reviews plans and specifications for constructability, safety, and risk management considerations • Maintains a value engineering mindset throughout development, design, and construction • Works closely with business and engineering staff across multiple markets and technical disciplines • Works closely with clients to understand nuanced technical needs and identify best feasible solution(s) • Supports marketing, sales and business development activities within assigned market • Demonstrates a wide degree of out-of-the-box thinking, creativity, and design ownership • Majority of the work will be in the office, with some general travel for design construction support, visiting clients, and representing Ulteig at conferences and trade shows as warranted

Job Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent
  • Civil and/or Structural Professional Engineer (PE or SE) registration required (Or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire)
  • Minimum of 4+ years of structural engineering experience required
  • Specific experience performing structural foundation design on utility scale solar projects in a fast-paced consulting environment preferred
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems preferred
  • Proficiency in LPile, APile, or equivalent industry standard numerical foundation analysis software required
  • Additional experience in RISA 3D, STAAD or other structural design software preferred
  • Proficiency in interpreting geotechnical data reports and estimating representative engineering properties of onsite soils required
  • Proficiency in oversight and interpretation of pile testing preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of ASCE 7, IBC, AISC 360, and ACI 318 required
  • Knowledge of commonly used ASTM test methods desired
  • Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and/or Civil 3D desired
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
