Job Description
Project Scheduler
GE Vernova
Job Description Summary In the Industrial Segment of our Steam Power Services business, time is the most critical resource. As the Project Schedule Manager, you will be responsible for the scheduling architecture that ensures the reliable maintenance, repair, and upgrade of steam turbines and generators for our industrial partners (e.g., pulp and paper, chemical, refining plants, waste to energy, etc). You will serve as the "logical engine" behind our operations, partnering with Technical, Operations, and Commercial teams to translate complex service scopes into executable project timelines. Your goal is to build, adjust, and modify schedules to balance customer requirements minimize downtime by driving scheduling precision from the initial bid through to site demobilization. Job Description Roles and Responsibilities Cross-Functional Integration (Local Core Team) - Collaborate with the Commercial team during the inquiry phase to provide realistic timeline commitments for customer proposals. - Partner with Technical/Engineering teams to incorporate technical constraints, part lead times, and engineering milestones into the master schedule. - Work alongside Operations and Field Services to ensure labor allocations, task durations and vendor constraints are accurately reflected in the project plan. Pre-Execution: Estimating & Bidding - Develop and modify Microsoft Project schedules to support Job Cost Estimates (JCE), ensuring that proposed labor hours and durations align with the commercial strategy. - Analyze scheduling risks during the bidding phase to provide the business with a clear understanding of critical path drivers for industrial outages. Execution & Site Support - Maintain and update active service schedules during the execution phase (both in-shop and on-site) to reflect real-time progress. - Manage the "Critical Path" for industrial outages, where every hour of downtime has significant financial implications for the customer. - Modify schedules dynamically to account for Scope Change Authorizations or technical deviations common in steam turbine and generator outages. Standardization & Rapid Mobilization - Build and maintain Standardized Schedule Templates for core industrial services (e.g., Minor/Major Inspections, Valve Overhauls, Generator Rewinds) to enable rapid project setup. - Ensure templates include standard logic for logistics, repairs, and safety/quality hold points. - Continuous Improvement & Training - Analyze "Plan vs. Actual" performance post-outage to drive continuous improvement in our scheduling accuracy. - Conduct training for Project Managers and Field Leads (occasional users) to ensure they can interpret schedules, update progress, and identify delays in the field. Required Qualifications & Skills - Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Project. Ability to manage complex dependencies, resource loading, and baseline tracking. - Industry Experience: Minimum of 5 experience in Industrial Services, Power Generation, or Heavy Mechanical sectors. Understanding of steam turbine/generator components is a significant advantage. - Outage Mindset: Understanding of the high-pressure nature of industrial outages. - Analytical Skills: Ability to convert a scope of work document into a detailed WBS (Work Breakdown Structure). - Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to bridge the gap between office-based commercial teams and site-based technical teams. Preferred Qualifications - Lean Core Knowledge: Strong foundational knowledge of Lean principles, with the ability to apply them to project "flow" and waste reduction in schedules. - Standard Work: Experience applying Standard Work concepts to the creation and maintenance of schedule templates to ensure consistency and repeatability. - Waste Identification: Ability to identify and eliminate "white space" or non-value-added time within a project timeline to reduce overall cycle time. - Value Stream Mapping (VSM): Understanding of how to map the flow of information and materials from contract award to site demobilization to optimize the scheduling process. - Professional Certification: PMP, PMI-SP (Scheduling Professional) - System Integration: Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and understanding how financial data integrates with Microsoft Project schedules. - Industry Context: Previous experience in Industrial Services, Power Generation, or heavy mechanical turnarounds/outages. Why This Role? In the Steam Power Industrial Segment, our customers rely on us to keep their plants running. As the Project Schedule Manager, you aren't just tracking dates—you are optimizing the uptime of essential industrial infrastructure. You will have a direct impact on the profitability of our services and the satisfaction of our most critical industrial customers.
