Substation Civil Engineer – Client Lead

Commonwealth Associates

• Develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to complex substation design projects. • Serves as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, building and maintaining strong relationships while leading technical execution and delivery. • Requires regular travel to client sites to support project coordination, relationship management, and business growth. • Leads civil/structural design for substation projects, including site development, grading, drainage, and foundations. • Coordinates multidisciplinary teams and oversees technical execution to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality. • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and CAD staff. • Identifies client needs and supports business development efforts, including contributing to proposals and expanding services.

Job Requirements

  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in civil/structural engineering, with a strong focus on substation design.
  • Demonstrated experience serving in a client-facing or client lead capacity, including direct interaction with utility or energy clients.
  • Proven ability to lead technical execution on multidisciplinary projects and mentor engineering teams.
  • Experience coordinating across disciplines and managing engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or required based on role and client needs.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites on a regular basis.
