Job Description
Engineering Design Specialist (Simulation-Based Systems)
Gramian Consulting
About Us Gramian Consultancy is a boutique consultancy specializing in IT professional services and engineering talent solutions. With a strong background in software engineering and leadership, we help companies build high-performing teams by matching them with professionals who truly fit their needs. Role overview We are looking for Engineering Design Specialists (e.g., electrical, mechanical, robotics, etc) to create simulation-based design challenges used to train and evaluate advanced AI systems. This role goes beyond analysis — it focuses on true engineering design thinking, where problems require trade-offs, iterative reasoning, and validation against physics-based simulations under real-world constraints. Commitments Required: 8 hours per day with an overlap of 4 hours with PST. Employment type: Contractor assignment (no medical/paid leave) Duration of contract: 5+ months Location: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil Interview: take home assessment (60min) + short interview Your Daily Responsibilities - Design realistic, simulation-driven engineering problems with clear constraints and optimization goals - Develop complete problem sets including: Reference solutions, Edge cases and failure modes, Near-miss variants - Ensure problems reflect real-world engineering complexity, including competing requirements and design trade-offs - Validate correctness and physical realism (units, boundary conditions, convergence, feasibility) - Collaborate with research teams to refine problem quality based on model performance - Continuously improve problem difficulty and diversity across scenarios Domain Expertise (at least one required) - Electrical & Computer Engineering — analog/mixed-signal, power electronics, RF, FPGA/ASIC, embedded systems - Mechanical Engineering — thermal/fluids, structures, dynamics, HVAC, manufacturing - Chemical Engineering — reactors, separations, process optimization, thermochemistry - Control Systems — feedback systems, state estimation, nonlinear/robust control - Materials / Nano — materials selection, microstructure design, nanoscale systems - Engineering Physics / Optics — photonics, lasers, wave propagation - Aerospace Engineering — aerodynamics, propulsion, flight dynamics - Civil / Structural Engineering — structural design, geotechnical, seismic/wind loads - Nuclear / Energy — reactor systems, thermal-hydraulics, energy systems - Systems Engineering — system architecture, trade studies, integration - Robotics — kinematics, motion planning, mechatronics
Job Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Engineering or Applied Science
- 3+ years of hands-on engineering design experience (not purely analytical roles)
- Proven ability to design systems under competing constraints and specifications
- Experience with at least one simulation tool relevant to your domain
- Strong Python (or equivalent scripting) skills
- High attention to detail and engineering rigor
- Nice to Have
- Experience designing academic or industry-level engineering challenges
- Exposure to AI/LLM evaluation or benchmarking
- Familiarity with CI/CD or automated validation pipelines
- Cross-domain experience (e.g., control systems, robotics, energy systems)
