Job Description

Mortgage Forward Deployed Engineer

Ocrolus Inc.

Role Description We’re looking for a Mortgage Forward-Deployed Engineer (FDE) to join our team and be the bridge between our product and our customers. This is not your standard engineering role; you’ll be out in the field, working directly with clients, writing production code, and helping them reimagine how they run their business with our platform. You will be working directly with our Account Management team, implementation team, and onboarding team. This role reports to the VP of Account Management. As an FDE, you’ll wear different hats: engineer, architect, and trusted advisor. If you like variety, ownership, and making real-world impact, you’ll love this role. This role will report to our Lead Forward-Deployed Engineer and be a part of the Account Management team. What you'll do: - Act as a technical expert and trusted advisor during the post-sales process, embed with customer teams to understand their workflows and demonstrate how Ocrolus’ technology improves efficiency in mortgage origination. - Review and consult on technical solutions, APIs, microservices, data pipelines, and integrations that solve real business problems. - Build and support technical solutions and integrations for mortgage clients using Ocrolus, Encompass, and other POS/LOS mortgage platforms. - Run proof-of-concepts and proof-of-value engagements that demonstrate ROI fast. - Troubleshoot gnarly technical issues in live environments and get things back on track. - Partner with the Account Management and Product teams to deliver value, and influence the roadmap. - Travel occasionally (~30–50%) to customer sites and industry events. Qualifications - 3+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, or technical consulting. - 3+ years of a background in mortgage, or lending workflows. - Strong understanding and experience with Encompass. - Strong consultative sales/account management approach—able to map technology to business challenges and drive change management conversations. - Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging senior mortgage executives. - Backend: Python; APIs; Encompass Developer Connect; SQL. - Frontend: React/TypeScript; JavaScript with ICE Secure Scripting Framework (SSF) for Encompass custom form and workflow logic. - Supporting: Familiarity with mortgage LOS/POS platforms (Encompass, Blend, SimpleNexus, Floify); Git; cloud basics (AWS/Azure). - Thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments where you figure it out and get it done. Requirements - Experience with SaaS integrations or loan origination systems. - Additional mortgage LOS/POS experience. - Exposure to AI/ML or generative AI. Benefits - Ownership from day one; our FDEs lead projects end-to-end. - Work directly with customers and see the immediate impact of what you build. - Shape the product by bringing the voice of the customer straight to engineering. - Work directly with a team focused on creating an excellent client experience. - Have fun working with a highly proactive, collaborative team. Company Description We’re a team of builders, thinkers, and problem solvers who care deeply about our mission — and each other. As a fast-growing, remote-first company, we offer an environment where you can grow your skills, take ownership of your work, and make a meaningful impact. Our culture is grounded in four core values: - Empathy – Understand and serve with compassion. - Curiosity – Explore new ideas and question the status quo. - Humility – Listen, be grounded, and remain open-minded. - Ownership – Love what you do, work hard, and deliver excellence. We believe diverse perspectives drive better outcomes. That’s why we’re committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone has a seat at the table, regardless of race, gender, gender identity, age, disability, national origin, or any other protected characteristic. We look forward to building the future of lending together.

Full TimeRemoteTeam 51-200

How will you make an impact? As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of engineering and product to shape how our users build with Hygraph. You'll ship features that solve real customer problems, contribute to our CMS core, extend our platform capabilities, and help bring AI-powered features to life. You won't wait for perfect specs or pixel-perfect designs. You'll use your judgment, collaborate closely with PMs and customers, and move fast using modern AI-assisted development tools. This role is for someone who sees engineering as a team sport, takes ownership without waiting for permission, and thrives in an environment where initiative matters more than instructions. What you will be working on: - Core CMS development: Evolve the GraphQL-native CMS powering enterprise teams worldwide, improving performance, reliability, and developer experience. - CMS extensions and integrations: Develop and maintain extensions that expand what customers can do with Hygraph. - AI-powered features: Contribute to our AI roadmap by building intelligent capabilities into the product. - Customer-facing improvements: Use monitoring data, customer feedback, and your product instinct to proactively identify and fix problems before they're reported. Some of your tasks and responsibilities: - Collaborate in a cross-functional, autonomous team to deliver features and continuous improvements, often working from rough prototypes or early concepts rather than polished designs. - Translate business needs into technical solutions by working closely with Product Managers. Occasionally, participate in customer conversations to validate that what you're building actually solves their problems. - Comfortable using modern AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude, Codex, or similar) to accelerate development, or excited to adopt them quickly. - Proactively identify issues through monitoring and observability data. Then fix them, don't just flag them. - Contribute to architectural decisions that keep our platform scalable, reliable, and maintainable. - Share what you know, learn from others, and help your teammates grow. Engineering here is collaborative. We win together. Expectations timeline 1 Month You'll complete onboarding covering our product, tech stack, infrastructure, and vision. You'll meet people across the company, get familiar with our codebase, and ship your first contributions. You'll start building context on how our customers use Hygraph and what matters most to them. 3 Months You'll be delivering features and improvements to production with confidence. You'll have a solid understanding of Hygraph's product and architecture, and you'll be contributing ideas, not just code. You'll have built working relationships with your team lead, PMs, and fellow engineers through regular 1:1s, operational reviews, and day-to-day collaboration. 6 Months By now, you'll be making significant contributions to both the product and the team. You'll bring fresh perspectives from your experience and help raise the bar across performance, architecture, and how we work. You'll be someone the team relies on. Not because you do everything, but because you make everyone around you better. What we expect from you: - Significant experience (typically 6+ years) building and owning production systems, with strong full-stack skills in JavaScript/TypeScript and deep backend expertise (ideally Node.js). - Experience building user interfaces, ideally with React. - Experience developing well-tested APIs (GraphQL and/or REST). - Strong understanding of backend systems, scalability, and performance fundamentals. - Solid knowledge of relational databases (especially PostgreSQL), including schema design and query optimization. - Active use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex, or similar) in your workflow, or a clear, demonstrated eagerness to adopt them. - Ability to work with ambiguity: rough prototypes, evolving requirements, and imperfect information. You use judgment and experience to fill the gaps. - Strong product sense. You think about why you're building something, not just how. You care about the customer experience, not just the code. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills. You speak up when something's off, share credit when things go well, and give feedback with respect and clarity. - A growth trajectory that shows steady improvement. You don't have to know everything, but you need to demonstrate that you learn fast and keep raising your own bar. Bonus points: - Experience with on-call or operations (incident response, etc.), or openness to taking this on as we grow the team. - Experience with GraphQL and Golang. - Familiarity with cloud-native development (AWS, GCP). - Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools (Pulumi, Terraform). - Experience with monitoring and observability tooling (New Relic, Datadog, or similar). - Experience working directly with customers or in customer-facing roles. - Familiarity with headless CMS platforms or content infrastructure. The Process - Intro call with People Team - Interview with the Hiring Manager - Technical Interview - C-Level Call and Reference Check (optional) - Job Offer The response time after application, screening applications, and setting up the first intro call is usually within 1-2 weeks. You could expect some alterations when necessary.
