Role Description We are seeking a Distribution Engineer – Planning & Protection to support electric distribution engineering programs for major utility clients. This role focuses on circuit evaluation, distribution system modeling, overcurrent protection, arc flash assessment, and system reliability improvements. Ideal candidates bring hands-on experience with distribution protective devices, fusing and circuit tie development, planning studies, and industry-standard analysis tools. In this role, you will evaluate existing distribution circuits, perform planning and protection studies, and recommend protective device settings and system improvements that enhance safety, reliability, and operational performance while balancing economic considerations. - Perform circuit planning and protection studies, including circuit evaluation, load allocation, load flow, and fault analysis - Model and analyze distribution systems using CYME / CYMDIST, CYMTCC, and WindMil - Develop, review, and recommend overcurrent protection schemes and protective device coordination - Design and evaluate fusing strategies and circuit tie configurations to improve system reliability - Apply protective system design principles for circuit breakers, reclosers, fuses, and sectionalizers - Assess and help mitigate arc flash hazards on distribution systems - Recommend engineering improvements aligned with safety, reliability, and cost objectives - Prepare technical documentation, reports, and engineering recommendations for internal teams and utility clients - Collaborate with engineers, planners, designers, and stakeholders to support project execution - Support additional duties as assigned Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline - 2+ years of hands-on experience in distribution planning, circuit protection, or electric distribution engineering - Hands-on experience with CYME (including CYMDIST/CYMTCC) and/or WindMil - Experience with circuit evaluation, circuit tie development, and system reliability improvements - Strong understanding of distribution protective devices and coordination concepts - Familiarity with protective system design principles and distribution planning methodologies - Experience performing or supporting arc flash hazard analysis on distribution systems - Ability to evaluate engineering tradeoffs and make sound, defensible recommendations - Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills - Authorization to work in the United States is required - Although minimal, must be willing to travel as needed, including overnight - Ability to work during core work hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday-Friday – occasional weekend work may be required Physical Requirements - Must be able to sit and utilize a computer keyboard, computer monitor, and telephone for prolonged periods of time. - Must have the physical ability to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing notes, and viewing a computer terminal; these activities require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. - Must have the physical ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, often in a group setting. - Must have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication. • Utilize logistical engineering methods to understand, predict, and/or improve supply chain operations and efficiencies. • Provide consistent, relevant, and accurate data analyses and support engineering decisions using data driven methods. • Develop domestic and global end-to-end supply chain network baselines. • Build interfacing element tables, including products, sites, demand, sourcing policies, transportation policies, and inventory policies. • Extract data from enterprise resource planning and business intelligence environments. • Refine data issues via rule-based attribute, record, cell, and consistency (ARCC) processes. • Analyze “service only” and “low cost” baseline models. • Model current and future state scenarios and cost/service implications. • Prepare Greenfield and/or Brownfield cost-benefit and break even analyses. • Improve product flow paths, including inbound consolidation, cross docking, port selection, and vendor direct strategies. • Translate complex system models (Llamasoft, Tableau) into executive-level presentations with analyses and data driven recommendations. • Collaborate with Route Optimization to develop optimized transportation networks, including routes, modes, schedules, and fleets. • Evaluate safety stock inventory levels and facility stocking strategies as needed.
