Finance Associate, Bookkeeper

• Maintain accurate and reliable financial records in line with HGB • Own accounts payable and receivable, including invoice processing, reconciliations, and payment runs (including hands-on work when needed) • Prepare monthly pre-accounting and support smooth month-end and year-end closings with external accountants • Manage employee expenses, reimbursements, and corporate card reconciliations • Support liquidity management, cash flow tracking, and payment scheduling • Ensure structured, audit-ready documentation at all times • Actively question and improve how we run finance today • Identify manual or inefficient workflows and help automate and scale them • Build and improve financial reports that give the business real insight — not just numbers • Help evolve our finance and payroll setup as the company grows • Ensure compliance with German tax, social security, and reporting requirements • Support audits and documentation requests confidently • Handle sensitive financial and personal data securely and GDPR-compliantly • Work closely with Finance and People on budgeting, cost control, and reporting • Support department leads with clear, timely financial information • Be a service-minded contact for finance-related questions across the company • Prepare and validate monthly payroll data and support timely salary payments

Job Requirements

  • Completed training or degree in accounting or finance (e.g. Steuerfachangestellte:r, Buchhalter:in, or similar)
  • Experience in hands-on bookkeeping, ideally in a German startup or SME
  • Strong knowledge of German tax law
  • Experience with DATEV (Unternehmen Online) or similar accounting/payroll tools
  • A pragmatic, detail-oriented working style — you’re comfortable getting your hands dirty
  • A builder mindset. You enjoy automating, improving, and rethinking processes
  • A service-oriented attitude when working with colleagues
  • Fluent German (C1/C2) for official documentation and communicating with authorities
  • Professional working proficiency in English for internal collaboration
