The role’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Support the Operations Section Manager with personnel administration, strategic planning, and staff planning. - Work alongside the Service Delivery Team, Architecture Team, and Security Team to support their objectives. - Mentor network operations engineers in the practical application of current/emergent technologies, agile IT, ITIL and continuous improvement practices and techniques. - Participate in shift lead duties to serve as “queue managers” to ensure each escalated issue is efficiently assigned, actively being worked by expediting resolution and fulfillment to meet SLAs. - Engage with the Sections to perform baselines of Data Center and Colocation systems using discovery tools such as ScienceLogic. - Work with system owners to ensure understanding of services supported, update support documentation, and determine if hosted systems can be sunset to reclaim space, power, and cooling. - Proactively monitor growth trends of hosted systems such as Biowulf supercomputer and work with Network Architecture and system owners to proactively recommend resource adjustments as part of our overall Capacity Planning approach to ensure availability of required resources. Qualifications - High School with CCIE (Data Center) certification and 5 years of equivalent Data Center operational experience OR CCNP (Data Center) certification and 10 years of equivalent Data Center operational experience. - Experience mentoring network operations engineers in the practical application of current/emergent technologies, agile IT, ITIL and continuous improvement practices and techniques. - Clearance Required: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. This position is located in Bethesda, MD and is a remote/hybrid position. - Coordinate with the Section Manager to evaluate, design, and test architecture designs and services from the roadmap backlog - Lead the transition of user accepted designs and services to the Operations and Security Teams - Provide subject matter expertise in Enterprise-level facilities security - Provide subject matter expertise in Enterprise-level industrial control systems networks (i.e., Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) networks) - Strategically plan, architect, design, engineer, develop, test, implement, modernize, and enhance the functional capabilities, capacity, and performance of the NIH Network and TIC Services in alignment with NIH future state architecture objectives - Software and hardware installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance - Team with the Security Section to achieve security architecture requirements - Maintain technical architecture documentation - Troubleshooting and problem resolution - Change management - Support resources responsible for security implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and vulnerability remediation - Strategic Transformative planning for network architecture services Qualifications - Bachelor's with 12+ years (or commensurate experience) - CCIE Certification: Written and practical - Within each of the Cisco Certifications, the following specializations are needed and listed in order of importance: Routing and Switching, Service Provider, Data Center and Wireless - Clearance Required: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. This position is located in Bethesda, MD and is a remote/hybrid position. - Support the Operations Section Manager with personnel administration, strategic planning, and staff planning. - Work alongside the Service Delivery Team, Architecture Team, and Security Team to support their objectives. - Mentor network operations engineers in the practical application of current/emergent technologies, agile IT, ITIL and continuous improvement practices and techniques. - Participate in shift lead duties to serve as “queue managers” to ensure each escalated issue is efficiently assigned, actively being worked by expediting resolution and fulfillment to meet SLAs. - Ensure all network infrastructure devices and systems are monitored using tools such as Grafana, Cisco’s StealthWatch, and PerfSonar. - Provide maintenance, patching, and troubleshooting support for NIHNet’s DWDM circuits to ensure backbone redundancy to NIHNet. - Work with Network Architecture team to identify and recommend software defined networking (SDN) solutions. - Coordinate with Office of Research and Facilities (ORF) to communicate issues and changes that may disrupt critical services. - Work with ORF to formulate performance and security improvements for the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) network. - Support Cisco-based, backend infrastructure for wireless LANs that provide wireless connectivity for NIH staff and visitors. - Recommend wireless LAN changes to IC POCs based on anomalies detected by CIT tools. - Ensure wireless configurations and solutions are in accordance with published CIT Wireless Baseline Standards. - Work with IC’s to achieve NIH goal of 100% wireless coverage at all NIH locations.
