People Operations Manager, Payroll

• You run the monthly payroll in close cooperation with our external payroll office in Germany; from 2027 you will handle payroll independently in-house using Personio Payroll. • You prepare payroll for our colleagues in Austria and Switzerland and coordinate with the respective tax firms. • Via our ticketing tool you respond to all requests related to your area, issue certificates, employment references, etc. • You support the correction and maintenance of our time tracking system. • You maintain close contact with health insurance providers and public authorities. • You are responsible for administering our benefits and company pension scheme (BAV) and support the team in organizing workations and similar formats.

Job Requirements

  • You have a commercial apprenticeship or degree and at least 3 years of professional experience in People Operations, payroll and social security law in Germany, or training as a tax clerk (Steuerfachangestellter) with equivalent experience from a tax firm.
  • You are willing to train in preparatory payroll for Austria (AT) and Switzerland (CH).
  • You are numbers- and tech-oriented and eager to automate and digitize processes; you have an excellent understanding of interdependencies and interfaces.
  • You are conscientious, discreet, reliable and helpful — you strive to make People Operations not only efficient but also user-centered and smart.
  • You have very good German language skills (at least C1) and good English skills, written and spoken (B2).

This role will be responsible for leading and managing end-to-end payroll operations across the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia, as well as managing a team of payroll specialists. You will report to the Corporate Controller and partner cross-functionally as we continue to build a world-class, scalable payroll process to support our continued high growth. The ideal candidate combines strong technical payroll expertise, global compliance knowledge, leadership capability, and experience with Workday Payroll processing. Who You Are: - 10+ years experience with both US domestic and international payroll, preferably at a high-growth company. - Experience with Workday Payroll is required. - Expertise in application of state and local payroll taxes, application of benefits, 401k, and all other aspects of payroll. - Expert level knowledge of payroll related best practices and applicable wage and hour regulations. - Strong ability to accurately interpret and apply organizational procedures, rules, and regulations. - Successfully led system optimization initiatives and established payroll processes in new countries from the ground up. - Experience with creating and running customized Workday reports that are needed for all tax, compliance, and regulatory purposes. - Working knowledge of payroll accounting / general ledger activities. - Proven organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and work well in an environment with competing demands. - You pride yourself on your professional manner and ability to deal with a high volume of employee inquiries.
