Principal Engineer (AI Platform)
Recruiting From Scratch
Role Description Own the technical vision and architecture for a production-grade AI platform focused on reliability, observability, and remediation. - Design and scale systems that support evaluation pipelines, inference orchestration, tracing, and AI performance monitoring. - Partner closely with product and executive leadership to translate ambiguous problems into scalable technical solutions. - Define and implement best practices around system performance, latency, cost efficiency, and safety. - Lead architectural decision-making across multiple projects and systems. - Mentor senior engineers and elevate the technical bar across the organization. - Contribute selectively to hands-on coding for critical systems and complex technical challenges. - Establish metrics and frameworks to ensure production reliability and continuous improvement. Qualifications - 10+ years of software engineering experience, currently operating at a Principal, Staff, or equivalent level. - Strong background in building and scaling production systems, ideally including AI-powered products or platforms. - Proven ownership of systems from concept through production and iteration. - Deep expertise in backend and distributed systems, with working knowledge of full-stack technologies. - Strong experience with Python and familiarity with TypeScript, Node.js, and modern web frameworks. - Experience working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with high ownership. - Demonstrated ability to lead architectural design and influence technical direction. - Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and leadership. Requirements - Experience building or scaling generative AI systems, LLM-based products, or AI infrastructure. - Familiarity with observability, monitoring, or MLOps platforms. - Experience with tools and frameworks such as OpenTelemetry, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). - Background in B2B SaaS, developer tools, or AI infrastructure companies. - Experience mentoring senior engineers or leading technical initiatives across teams. Benefits - Competitive base salary: $250,000 – $300,000. - Meaningful equity in a high-growth Series A company. - Fully remote work environment (US-based) with flexible hours. - Opportunity to work directly with experienced leadership and shape a core AI platform. - High-impact role with significant ownership and influence over technical direction. - Fast, efficient interview process (typically 1.5–2 weeks).
