Job Description

Controller

Mezmo

• Own the monthly close and general ledger, ensuring accurate, timely financials • Oversee billing, revenue, AR, AP, and cash management, with support from contractors and external partners • Manage the outsourced accounting firm and hold vendors accountable to clear timelines and quality standards • Own banking relationships and cash controls, including monthly compliance and certifications • Coordinate payroll through an external vendor, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance • Own commission calculations and entries for Sales and Customer Success • Maintain and own the cap table in Carta, including option grants, exercises, cancellations, and 409A coordination • Manage corporate insurance programs and key compliance items • Support state and federal tax filings in partnership with external advisors • Lead and manage third-party consultants, providing direction, prioritization, and quality control • Improve accounting processes and reduce complexity over time—bringing order and stability first, then efficiency • Partner closely with the VP of Finance to support a lean, technology-forward finance function as the business scales

Job Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in accounting or finance, including time as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or similar.
  • Experience working in a high-growth SaaS, tech, or VC-backed company, ideally on a lean finance team.
  • Hands-on ownership of day-to-day accounting, including AP, payroll oversight, revenue support, commissions, and general ledger work.
  • Experience managing cap tables and equity administration (Carta experience preferred).
  • Comfortable using systems such as Bill.com, Ramp, Zip, or other cloud-based accounting systems.
  • Experience owning banking relationships, credit facilities, and compliance or audit-related requirements.
  • Working knowledge of state and local tax compliance, with experience partnering with external tax providers.
  • A track record of simplifying processes, improving accuracy, and keeping things moving in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience managing or coordinating consultants, contractors, or outsourced partners.
  • Clear, practical communicator who partners well with finance leadership, cross-functional teams, and outside advisors.
  • Comfortable stepping into an execution-focused role that blends hands-on work with light team leadership.
  • Interest in broader business partnership or FP&A exposure is a plus.
