The Team: Upstart's Distribution Platform team is developing innovative solutions and strategies that drive efficient and scalable marketing outreach, empowering us to effectively engage with our users while having a direct impact on Upstart's mission and growth. The team is responsible for some of our highest value distribution channels including digital ads, direct mail, and partner integrations. Our goal is to build an intelligent, unified system that learns, automates, and scales how Upstart engages with our customers on these channels. As a Senior Engineering Manager at Upstart, you will play a crucial role in shaping how we drive user growth and outreach through intelligent targeting, 3P integrations, and data-heavy scalable infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for the tech behind some of our largest marketing channels and have a direct impact on the company’s performance. You will work closely with cross-functional counterparts in Analytics, Marketing, Machine Learning, and Product to create a scalable marketing platform that mobilizes Upstart’s owned channels to drive users to our products efficiently. How you’ll make an impact - Define and implement an engineering roadmap that supports intelligent and scalable outreach to customers via our direct mail, digital, and partnerships platform - Work with cross functional partners including Product Managers, Performance Marketing Managers, Analytics, and Research Scientists to make this a highly impactful program - Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team directly, focused on providing high quality solutions and incrementally enhance systems with each pull request - Leverage experimentation and data-driven insights to refine growth strategies, optimizing user outreach and conversion through continuous testing, iteration, and personalization - Create a best-in-class direct mail and digital infrastructure that scales Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or a related field (or its equivalent) + 8 years of experience, including at least 3 years of direct people management experience. - Experience leading product oriented teams with quantifiable user impact - Ability to convey complex technical information to a variety of audiences Preferred Qualifications - Experience working on systems that integrate with 3rd parties and/or ingest, store, expose large amounts of data - Professional experience working on either Marketing technology or Growth engineering - Proven track record of leading and growing engineering teams - Success in driving initiatives spanning multiple teams across organizations - Skilled in scaling systems in both a technical and organizational capacity Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. The Team: Upstart’s Marketplace Optimization team is responsible for optimizing market-level outcomes, balancing tradeoffs for borrowers, capital providers, and Upstart. The team builds the dynamic policy levers, matching and offer-selection logic, and monetization tooling that clear the marketplace, manage margins, and maximize capital utilization efficiency. As the Senior Engineering Manager on the team for Marketplace Optimization, you will lead high-impact engineering squads that turn marketplace strategy and ML-backed signals into reliable production systems. You’ll partner closely with Product, Machine Learning, and Capital Markets to deliver scalable capital routing, matching, and monetization automation capabilities that directly affect borrower outcomes and capital performance. You will set execution priorities, remove blockers, and develop engineers to ship production-grade services that are observable, performant, and safe for a regulated fintech environment.
