Job Description

Property Claims Specialist

HUB International

About Proper Insurance Proper Insurance is a Managing General Agent (MGA) and a division of SPG, operating with full claims handling authority. We offer a commercial policy designed from the ground up to cover short-term rental properties — one of the fastest-growing and most nuanced segments in modern insurance. Our claims team is the cornerstone of how we deliver on that promise. We handle claims in a way that is faithful to the policy, built on genuine customer service, and designed to create confidence with the carriers who trust us with their paper. If you take pride in doing the work right — and in treating policyholders like people — this is the team you want to be on. The Role We are looking for an experienced property Claims Specialist with 3 or more years of adjusting experience to join our team. You will manage an assigned desk of property claims end-to-end — from coverage analysis and investigation through negotiation, resolution, and closure. You will be the primary point of contact for our insureds, and your work will directly shape their experience with Proper. What You’ll Do Coverage Analysis & Investigation - Review policy forms, endorsements, and FNOL to determine coverage applicability. - Identify relevant exclusions, conditions, and limitations — and document your rationale clearly. - Conduct timely investigations through interviews, document review, vendor coordination, and inspections. File Management & Resolution - Own your desk from assignment through closure with active diary management. - Evaluate damages, challenge estimates where appropriate, and set reserves consistent with exposure. - Negotiate settlements within your authority; escalate beyond it with a clear recommendation. Customer Experience - Serve as the primary contact for insureds, agents, and vendors — and make them feel it. - Explain coverage decisions in plain language; set expectations and follow through on commitments. - Minimize status-check calls through proactive communication. Compliance & Audit Readiness - Document all significant decisions and activities in the claims system contemporaneously. - Adhere to internal guidelines and applicable regulatory requirements. - Keep your files in an audit-ready state at all times. What We’re Looking For - 3+ years of property claims adjusting experience required. - Solid command of property coverage, policy forms, and claim best practices. - Strong written and verbal communication — clear, concise, and well-documented. - Sound analytical judgment: you assess the facts, weigh the options, and own the decision. - Negotiation skill and professional composure in difficult conversations. - Accountability mindset — you manage your desk with minimal handholding and escalate with solutions, not just problems. - Experience with short-term rental, habitational, or specialty commercial property lines is a plus. Compensation & Benefits Disclosure required under applicable law in California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, and Washington states: The expected salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level. HUB International is proud to offer comprehensive benefit and total compensation packages: health/dental/vision/life/disability insurance, FSA, HSA and 401(k) accounts, paid-time-off benefits such as vacation, sick, and personal days, and eligible bonuses, equity and commissions for some positions. #SPG Department Claims Management Required Experience: 2-5 years of relevant experience Required Travel: No Travel Required Required Education: High school or equivalent HUB International Limited is an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate on the basis of race/ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or veteran's status, or any other characteristic protected by local, state or federal laws, rules or regulations.
