This critical role is responsible for providing 24/7 Database Administration support for our diverse and mission-critical database environments. Tasks and Responsibilities - Database Administration: Install, configure, manage, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments. - Performance Tuning: Monitor database performance, diagnose issues, and implement performance tuning strategies for queries, indexes, and database configurations. - High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HADR): Implement and manage high availability solutions (e.g., Always On, clustering, replication) and disaster recovery plans (backups, recovery models). - Security: Manage database security, including user permissions, roles, authentication, and encryption, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards. - Install, configure, and upgrade MySQL databases (Community and/or Enterprise editions). - Manage multiple database environments, including production, development, QA, and staging. - Perform regular health checks, capacity planning, and proactive monitoring of MSSQL, MySQL and other DB instances. - Maintenance and Automation: Schedule and manage routine maintenance tasks, and develop scripts (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL) to automate administrative and monitoring processes. - Troubleshooting: Rapidly diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including connectivity, performance degradation, and corruption. - Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Qualifications - 5+ years of hands-on, progressive Microsoft SQL Server Administration experience. - Strong practical experience with database backup/restore, recovery models, and HADR technologies. - Proven expertise in database performance monitoring and tuning. - Familiarity with the administration of MySQL and/or PostgreSQL database systems. - Demonstrated experience managing or supporting databases on Cloud DB Platforms (e.g., GCP). - Solid understanding of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux/Unix) as they relate to database environments. - Strong experience in Incident/ Request/ Change/ Problem management. - Solid understanding of RDBMS concepts, ACID properties, transactions, and isolation levels. Knowledge & Skills - Microsoft SQL Server: Deep proficiency in the administration, configuration, and maintenance of all SQL Server versions. - Performance Tuning: Expert knowledge of SQL query optimization, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and database/server-level performance tuning. - High Availability & DR (HADR): Proven experience implementing and managing SQL Server HA/DR solutions (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, Clustering, Mirroring, Replication). - Backup & Recovery: Mastery of backup strategies, recovery models, and performing point-in-time and advanced database recovery operations. - Security: Strong skills in managing security models, authentication, user/role permissions, encryption, and audit policies. - Other RDBMS: Working knowledge and administration experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL. - Cloud DB Platforms: Practical experience managing or supporting databases deployed on major Cloud Database Services (e.g., Google Cloud SQL, AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database). - Progress Database: Familiarity with the administration and maintenance of Progress databases is a plus. - Operating Systems: Solid understanding of Windows Server and/or Linux operating system concepts related to database hosting and resource management. - T-SQL & Scripting: Strong proficiency in writing and troubleshooting complex T-SQL code, stored procedures, and functions. - Familiarity with the Microsoft Business Intelligence stack, specifically providing support and troubleshooting for SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) environments. - Automation: Experience developing scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to automate routine DBA tasks, monitoring, and reporting. - Solid understanding of ITIL principles and experience working within an IT service management framework (e.g., ServiceNow). - Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills with a meticulous attention to detail. - Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, global environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. - Must be flexible and fully prepared to participate in a 24x5 shift rotation schedule to ensure continuous database operational support. • Own day-to-day operations and advanced administration of AWS RDS (Postgres, MySQL, Aurora), MongoDB Atlas, and Microsoft SQL Server, including configuration, patching, scaling, and troubleshooting • Implement and refine database standards, automation, and operational runbooks to ensure availability, performance, security, and compliance across all environments • Collaborate with application and platform engineering teams on schema design, indexing strategies, query tuning, and data lifecycle management to optimize workload performance and cost • Design, build, and maintain automation for provisioning, patching, backups, cloning, and monitoring using tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, and native AWS services like CloudWatch and Systems Manager • Implement and enhance observability for databases, including metrics, logs, traces, alert thresholds, and performance dashboards to enable proactive detection and rapid diagnosis of issues • Design and validate high availability, backup, and disaster recovery strategies across regions and accounts, including regular testing and documentation of recovery procedures • Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation for production database incidents, leading technical response for Sev1/Sev2 events and driving toward rapid containment and resolution • Mentor other Database Administrators and platform engineers through design reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing, helping elevate overall team capability while remaining as an individual contributor • Own and standardize database schema change management across the organization using tools such as Liquibase, ensuring all changes are version-controlled, peer-reviewed, auditable, and safely deployable
