We are seeking an experienced Facility, Ancillary, and Professional Fee (Profee) Coder to support accurate and compliant coding for our Critical Access Hospital (CAH). This role is essential to maintaining the integrity of our billing, coding, and reimbursement processes. The coder will be responsible for assigning accurate codes for facility services, including Emergency Department (ED), Inpatient, and Swing Bed services. Responsibilities also include coding professional fee services for Radiology, Pathology, Emergency Department, Clinic, and Hospitalist providers, as well as ancillary services such as Radiology, Diagnostic Imaging, CT (Cat Scan), Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Laboratory services. The ideal candidate will ensure coding accuracy, compliance with regulatory requirements, and proper documentation to support appropriate reimbursement. What You’ll Do - Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient encounters including emergency, observation, surgery, and ancillary services. - Code both facility and professional fee components accurately. - Review and resolve claim edits and denials related to coding or medical necessity. - Collaborate with providers and the revenue cycle team to ensure complete and compliant documentation. - Stay current with coding regulations, payer guidelines, and CAH billing requirements. What We’re Looking For - Certification: CPC, COC, or CCS required. - Experience: 2+ years of outpatient coding, preferably in a Critical Access Hospital or similar setting. - Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding. - Skilled in claim edit resolution and denial management. - Proficient with EHR and encoder systems (Epic, 3M, Meditech, Evident, TruCode, or similar). - Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Communicate with insurance companies, patients and other relevant parties to obtain authorizations. Obtain necessary work comp, Auto Med-Pay and Lien Request information. 6. Save requests from the clinics in appropriate folder and update with comments as needed in order to track status. 7. Schedule patients for the next visit once authorization is received or communicate with scheduling and/or clinic staff in order to advise which patients can be scheduled. 8. Enter and update comments in the billing and scheduling systems and attach authorizations as needed. 9. Performs benefit verifications daily as assigned and updates billing and scheduling system accurately, as required. 10. Notify the assigned biller and/or clinic when authorization is obtained as appropriate. 11. Answer telephones and refer as necessary. Back up the schedulers if needed. 12. Operates all office equipment as necessary in the performance of duties.
