Role Description Candidate will have a strong Farm/Agribusiness background as this position is responsible for achieving profitable underwriting results in support of growth and profit objectives by appropriate risk selection, agency relations, book management and development of the Enterprise Farm/Agribusiness and Monoline Auto (Auto Accel) program business opportunities. - Solicits and develops Farm/Agribusiness and Monoline Auto (Auto Accel) opportunities through relationship development and agency travel. - Underwrite new and renewal business for Farm/Agribusiness & Monoline Auto (Auto Accel) business including the evaluation, classification, and rating of risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing. - Building and establishing underwriting guidelines and reference materials for Agribusiness. - Refers potential risks outside of your authority to department Team Lead and/or Manager after pre-underwriting is complete. - Demonstrate knowledge of subject material through referral discussions and file documentation. - Exhibit sound judgment in decision-making. - Analyzes quality, volume, mix of business and profit for assigned state. - Identify trends in submission activity and works to meet production targets as established. - Maintain policy retention and pricing objectives. - Maintains superior service that meets and exceeds department standards and our Enterprise brand of service, trust and relationship. - Displays understanding ease of doing business (EODB) with customers. - Develop effective relationships with agents to meet production goals. - Practice effective verbal and written communication skills and maintain professionalism in all work dealings. - Develops ongoing working relationships with insurance producers and keeps them up-to-date on underwriting and/or product changes. - Maintains relationships with agencies, claims, and Enterprise counterparts. - Responsible for agency travel to increase producer awareness of Enterprise underwriting appetites, philosophy, and product offerings. - Develop and maintain full knowledge of all policy forms, coverages, rating plans, and manuals for all lines written. - Serve as a resource to our agents and share knowledge and experience with our underwriter team. - Maintain thorough and complete file documentation for all assigned accounts. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree and/or CPCU designation strongly desired. - Minimum of 5 years of Agribusiness experience. - Professional insurance designation (e.g. CPCU, AFIS, etc.) preferred. - Extensive knowledge of and ability to analyze and interpret underwriting manuals, policies. - Working knowledge of ISO based products and services (i.e. rates, rules & forms). - Ability to build effective relationships. - Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. - Demonstrated leadership ability. - Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels in the organization. - Ability to manage multiple priorities of varying complexities. - Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential. - Exceptional customer service skills. - Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. - Strong attention to detail. - Excellent time management skills. As a senior level position, this role works independently while also providing mentorship and support to other roles as needed. Core Job/Requirements/Outcomes - Demonstrate full proficiency and knowledge of home loan underwriting guidelines and maintain compliance with all regulatory standards by staying up to date on all applicable agency rules, investor guidelines and STCU product guidelines. - Determine borrower ability to repay and, property and program eligibility by reviewing and analyzing income documentation, asset documentation, credit reports, appraisals, AVMs, title reports, etc. as well as validating AUS findings. - Ensure alignment with STCU’s risk-tolerance standards and portfolio quality by applying strong problem-solving, sound judgment, and rigorous scrutiny to analyze the suitability of exception requests and complex loans—such as construction and jumbo loans—and recommend approval or denial as appropriate. - Maintain compliance with the department business plan by meeting applicable service level agreements and established production goals for number of loans underwritten. Other Essential Functions - Act as a senior member of the underwriting team by providing key feedback, mentoring and training to loan officers, processors and other underwriters when needed. - Serve as a representative of the Home Loan underwriting team in various STCU projects, committees and/or CI initiatives - Complete various on-going third-party training requirements as needed to maintain knowledge or as assigned by VP of Home Loan Underwriting. - Contribute to the development of STCU's culture and strategic vision; the achievement of organizational goals; and support and emulate the STCU Core Values. - Exercise strong communication skills by communicating loan decisions effectively and timely within established standards. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent required...Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Certifications: MBA Certified Residential Underwriter (CRU) and FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) designations are preferred. Job Experience: Minimum of five years of independent mortgage underwriting experience required. Prior experience in government underwriting is highly preferred. Software Skills: Previous experience with loan origination software is required. Proficient knowledge of working with an AUS system and operating in a paperless environment required. Role Description The Excess Casualty Underwriter will review and analyze underwriting data in order to determine if risks meet underwriting standards for Crum & Forster’s Umbrella/Excess suite of products.
